  1. At Central Plaza in Chiang mai the rule is clear, 500cc up and you can park at the big bike parking. In Pattaya I ended up parking my bike along the pathway because my bike is longer and everywhere else is full of smaller bikes. No big deal

When I was at that new Central shopping mall in Chiang Mai last December, they let everyone and their granny park in the big bike parking. Full of Fino's and other small crap.

  2. Funny that we start pointing at each other saying "Your bike is smaller, you have less rights to park here". The problem is not "small or big", the problem is that many bike parking areas i know are much too small. And the managers of shopping malls still think "no car = no money", so they do not change this.

Apparently you never parked at the superbike parking at Central World.

They are pretty strict on what can park there.

For the record, I am allowed on my CB500F.

  3. nice, we dont get that nice door to door service in bangkok!

Maybe not on your side of Bangkok.

I have been helped out by locals on more than one occasion.

i have been helped many times in Thailand. By locals, by police, by motorsais. Bike carried by police truck due to no petrol, pushed by motorsais, helped by locals...Thailand is the best country i have been for that. They dont help you that much even in my own home country!

i was talking about door to door service OP got.

Yes, and I was talking about Bangkok where you can get the same service.

  4. The wobble on the 500 disappears with a fork brace.

Much stabler in the corners too.

Does anyone in Thailand sell them?

K speed has one for 1700 thb. Check their website. They can post to your address fast. Motive brand.

But it will not eliminate all the wobbling, keep in mind.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Trust me, it does eliminate the wobble, it is even more stable on roads with crosswinds.

  5. Im happy there are lot of people who are happy with the Honda 500s ,, and I hope it remains that way,,, but the fact is that the model has a higher than normal problem rate for a new model ,Honda have made recalls in USa for some of The issues and in other countries and Honda dealers are aware of problems , they get all the warranty claim hassles so I personally would not buy one and 4 of my pattaya friends who did buy them sold them on due to the problems I have mentioned , 1 bought Er6 one changed his for NC700 another bought a monster 795 and another bought new Kawasaki 800 , another friend has a a 500 with 6k kilometres than has lost all its oil 4 times and been fixed 8 times by mityon he is not happy with it at all, , he has a BMW so he relies on that .

A cop who lives in my village got Mityon to refund him on his when the gearbox seals blew out after only 2000kms , he is a cop so they folded to him . he also has a kawasaki Er 6 now but he wants the new Z800

I must have gotten a Wednesday bike :-)

So your friends just upgraded. Nothing wrong with that. Maybe something got lost in translation.

I am a member of tons of 500 Facebook groups and an international forum.

Funny that nobody mentions all the problems you have. Apart from Superior who feels he has to tell everybody on the internet about his bad bike. Which I think happened after he crashed it, crash was maybe worse than what he describes, we will never know.

  6. If u want peace of mind and reliability avoid the very badly design flawed Honda 500 ,, get a proven Kawasaki Er or versys

Which flaws are you talking about?

Haven't found any after 21,xxx km.

How far have you ridden one to discover the flaws?

I have seen more than 20 with the breather problem that have lost much of their oil and 9 with blown engines due to seals failing and 4 with the warped camshaft and head in Thailand alone ,then there the recall for some issues and a friend in UK who is a Honda main dealer has seen same issues with many 500s he has sold ,,, he says its got serious design faults he has had many come back under warranty and honda are not doing much about it ......you have been lucky IMHO

    You have seen?

Are you a mechanic at Big Wing?

  7. Well, if your bike has a blue book, you are already riding illegal in Thailand.

Ask the guy you bought it from if he has a legal green book for you.

Getting off-topic, but since you seem to be in the know, can you quickly summarise what is required for a foreigner to legally own and ride a motorcycle in TH?

I just bought a Honda Forza from a dealer, who is currently taking care of the registration and insurance. I'd like to double-check the outcome of their work to be sure.

Also, is my Thai driver's license (Type 2) valid for riding motorcycles? (Or is it strictly for regular cars?)

@gw1, keep us posted on your planning. I'd like to take my bike up north soon as well. If you know of any scenic routes, do share.

    Thanks.

For a start, a bike should have a green book, not blue, the blue one is for a car.

So if the OP got a blue book with his bike, he got scammed.
