  1. May I ask what you exactly mean by "monthly statements" ? You mention a ten pound irregularity. But we are in Thailand, should be THB or is this not visible in the Thai bank book ? And "this mistake that everybody got" - is this a bank issue or an issue of the sender of money to you ? We have quite a number of accounts in different banks, but none with electronic banking enabled. Do these "occurences" happen as well when you only have a debit or credit card or does this happen online only ?
  2. You can as well buy "non ornament" gold - some sort of bullion - then no workmanship and labour. The 3.5% surcharge for credit cards is new to me. Where did you hear that ?
  3. Do not forget those update situations where the PC displays "Do not switch off your PC" ???? You wont like a power disruption just then I suppose. It might work because of build in security in the OS, but maybe it will not if you are unlucky - SSD or not. I have encountered just that situation and my APS UPS (it is a 1500 and one 550) took over seamlessly. Nearly same annoying situation during backup. Not to talk about surge protection which of course is build in. For Thailand I highly recommend a UPS and no Mickey Mouse if you can afford it, even if you maintain a regular backup anyway.
  4. Maybe I should have mentioned that we live in Na Chom Thian, Pattaya. But not in the jungle. The area is well developped. I would expect to have access to a public water supply. The house is 35 storeys high so indeed the water will have to be pumped up.
  5. Thanks. The last bill is straightforward: It says 20 Units - Unit Price 35.-- - Total Amount 700.-- (per month) Whatever a unit is in this case. I guess this should be a public water source. Our Condo Tower is 35 storeys high. We will ask the responsible office
  6. Shock ! Although the differences are not large in total but in % we seem to waste water like crazy compared to the majority. How can it be that your consumption seems to be that much lower than ours (2 Bathrooms, 2 Bedrooms, 2 adults in a 150qm condo (which would not matter - or do the aircons (3) use and dispose water as well ?). Activities are 1 or 2 showers a day per person, very rarely a full bath, washing dishes, washing clothes in our own modern washing machine (not that many). All in all a very modest setting. That does not include cooking/drinking water which are seperate. Our usual cost is THB 700+ per month from the water bill we get from the juristic person per month and which we pay directly to them. No idea how much units / liters that is. Can it be that this is not based on our individual consumption but on a key dividing the total consumption of the building and divide and allocate that to chargeable units (condos) ?
  7. I have two APC, one for my main PC and a local backup facility and one for a NAS because its constantly updating redundant disks. Work like a charm and they were needed a couple of times. Outages are unfortunately not a rare occurence here. As mentioned that APCs will softly shut down your designated device when the battery content is in the process of loosing too much power in order to power what you want. I may as well recommend invade IT as a supplier. Have been dealing with them intensely to my satisfaction.
  8. and regardless of preconditions. Drives me crazy. Why do so many always focus on age ? Its just obtainablity regardless of what.
  9. So is mine and I canot tell you how happy I am about this
  10. Sorry, my mistake. So it's US$100K. But his does not change the fundamentals of the issue and my arguments - it is only the amount.
  11. Agree, devils in the details always exist. Thats why it is so difficult to conclude any contract and mostly there are loopholes. I have concluded contracts professionally for decades. Now the US$100'000.-- have been reduced to US$50'000.- One step in the right direction. Death is a special case. The minority of the people inpatient would not just die (hopefully). But of course they could. Agree - should be looked at but not everything must be perfect. I think you do not prefer thousands of families be ripped apart creating unimaginable sorrow instead. And I still cannot get it: a 500.-- THB charge from every tourist would overwhelmingly satisfy any risk. So I would not like to call it barrier - but rather a challenge. A solvable challenge. A human challenge. A compassionate challenge.
  12. All the money in the world is not helping when you cannot conclude an insurance (because of preconditions) in case that INSURANCE is the requirement. See my post above. But the real requirement should be the ability to be able to pay for your medical cost. THEN only money helps. Elon Musk with diabetes would not get an Insurance contract and therefore no visa. Something wrong here isn't it ?
  13. Having Health Insurance cannot be a requirement. Being able to pay for ones own medical cost is the requirement. Insurance is only one means to achieve that. You may have the possibility to conclude one but this should not exclude the elderly and people with preconditions then. The easy remedy to that: Introduce a fixed account of health purposes in addition to health insurance solutions. Think a little bit how many problems this would solve. And it would even be safer (insurances sometimes do not pay out) and better for the country (more money in their banks).
  14. Yes. But not only no products for the elderly, there must be a solution for the ones with preconditions as well. After all it is not the aim to have an insurance but the goal is that everybody can pay their hospital bills. An insurance is only one possible means to achieve that. A fixed account for health, as even proposed in June this year, could be another easy one in addition and this could solve a lot of problems for many.
  15. Maybe these global traveling expats - even if they have many millions of $ in the bank - can not GET it. !! It is enough to have diabetes or high blood pressure etc. - and be otherwise functioning very very well. But nobody wants to insure them - regardless of the premium which they could easily afford. I hope this broadens your horizon of thinking a bit. There is much more to this insurance issue that meets the eye and the current solution is inhumane.
  16. But maybe a country for (old or young) men with a Thai family...? Or at least it should be ?
  17. If this is true it does not even always work - in cases where the insurance fails to pay out - for which could be many reasons. A required 3 Mio. (or 1.5 Mio thb) fixed deposit would not suffer from this deficiance and would therefore be a much better guarantee not to speak about the money they would get in local banks. You could still have the option of an insurance if this suits some people better. But "only insurance" would prevent some from getting an insurance contract at all because of preconditions (not only because of age as some always mention)
  18. Thank you Ubonjoe. I do not want to be pedantic, but does this mean that it is not needed for a non-o based upon marriage since you only mention "upon retirement" in your post 11 hours ago (see above)? Or is it as you say in your recent answer 17 minutes ago "It is required for non-o-visa application now" - so both for non-o based on marriage or retirement alike ? The link you posted shows the information "Non-Immigrant Category O (retirement).
  19. Maybe I had on the contrary too much of the stuff today. Was the "standard 40k baht out patient and 400 baht inpatient coverage" not only for O-A visas ? Or has this changed ? The OP talks about a non-o-visa only. Or did I completely misunderstand something for months ?
  20. Is it therefore correct to say that the former health insurance requirement for the issuance of non O-A visas has been broadened to cover any non-O visa (such based on retirement or marriage) as well (apart from the Covid (former 100K$ - now 50K$) insurance ? - at least when you enter first time. Joe - you have been always referring to a Royal Gazette and an Immigration Order if it comes to this matters. If this were true then this should (probably) show up there - or am I totally confused ? In fact I really feel I am for I might left out an all important change.
  21. That is what I was told orally, too. I received a queue number nevertheless by SMS although I was inoculated just a few days ago by the same hospital. But I assume that as a first class medical institution they know there is a waiting time of about 6 months (depends what you got as a vaccine 1. and 2. shot) between your second jab and the booster. For me this would be sometime in April 2022. I therefore have to contact them before they will send me the definitive date and time of the booster appointment as announced in the SMS.
  22. Thanks @arithai12. Exactly as you say. And good to see that I am not alone with my opinion. I have already be regarded as "elderly, not worth advertising to" by another member concerning this issue ???? - although this compassionate fellow does not know me in the slightest. And by the way: Today there are tools to maintain a website. No need anymore to program in HTML as in the beginning of the Internet era.
  23. No, I do not expect that they suit my needs although it would be nice from my point of view. And for the "moaning": This TVF is many times just that, but you could call it just "opinion". Otherwise I could have just remained silent. Applies to other topics as well apart from subjects where concrete useful information is exchanged. The rest is personal opinion - and absolutely no harm intended - at least not from myself. Sometimes amazing to see how agressive some posters react.
