  1. Our family needs to rent an additional car as cheap as possible (size does not matter) but from a reliable honest company, with insurance etc. Our past and very recommended Rent-a-Car with the office near the roundabout is seemingly gone. My stepdaughters boyfriends car got caught in the flood and it damaged the car badly. The repair takes months. Maybe he was not the only one. I expect at least one month more so rental would be at least for one month. Thanks for any suggestions.
  2. A will can always be challenged in the court. I have heard that this has happend successfully in Thailand as well. Your idea of coming to a mutual understanding of any family member in any situation is of course a good one. But there are some <deleted> people in this world and changing minds is as well not uncommon.
  3. I am interested in a single piece, but not as a vibrating singing bowl but used like a bell. Any idea where they sell it ? I am not interested to buy online, I have to try it out in person. Thanks.
  4. Has anybody an indication which restaurants (precise names) do this in Pattaya ? Theoretically this should be a 2 menues heaven, but I am not aware of a single restaurant which follows this practise. This might be because of myself or my wife not noticing, or because they wont do it to us (I have a Thai wife and never eat alone) or we simply do not frequent the super touristic places. I only know the parcs do it and Ripley's, but these are not restaurants.
  5. Of course. But lucky me is happy that I can do it in person in a jiffy. Well, IT does not always work as it is supposed to. Been working in the field for decades. Just one example of Murphys Law: The day before Christmas thousands of ATM and Point of Sales Terminals did not work anymore. And our big boss had his appearance in Television then.
  6. I said this is for folks who live near to an Immigration Office. If further away just take a better solution for your individual case like for example: Online Reporting ???? I guess that needs neither a derogatry post towards me nor an explanation for you - this is almost self-explanatory .....geez.
  7. You may as well report 7 days after the due date. However, they include every holiday and weekend in their calculation and include even the report date and the date you do actually report. That is why I never get full 90 days as I would calculate it. I would never report online. The procedure is so easy - just give them the passport outside at the collection point and wait a very little bit on a chair they provide. This way you may immediately control if everything is correct and you have as well stapled the right confirmation in your passport. But this is for Jomtien and I live relatively near.
  8. Excellent post. I do not have experience from 10 countries, but I can absolutely confirm what you write from the experience I have. Everybody is thinking that their culture is special in terms of deeper meaning and quality, that their language is the most eloquent and meaningful etc. Of course all are different. Obviously it is a challange now to detect what we all have in common instead of pointing out the differences.
  9. 25-50 kthb for only a Thai will seems exagerrated to me. But of course I do not know what they told you what is included. A very well written document in both English and Thai should you set back for something between 5 - 10kthb, but who am I to make the pricing for someone elses services. Maybe your case is very complicated ? This is for the document alone. I would not write it based only on your own understanding or use a template. Any other questions would for sure be answered by a good lawyer for a small fee or even for free. Do not forget the cost for probate, though which applies when you are already deceased.
  10. Could you please elaborate more on what you mean exactly by "Healthcare POA" ? A Living Will is a document that describes how you would like that doctors, hospitals etc. should treat you if you are not able to communicate (because of unconsciousness, because you are not sane at the time etc.). It describes for example if machines that keep you alive under certain circumstances should be switched off etc. when you cannot tell.
  11. As far as I know, in Thailand a beneficiary CAN be an executor, but it is not recommended for if there is some arguing (you see it depends very much on the individual case) then his stand towards the authorities would be weak. But this is what I believe, not what I know for certain. This topic here reminds me a bit of the health questions that are sometimes asked in the forum. Sometimes it all depends very much on the individual case - so why not ask a lawyer directly as you would ask a doctor ? The initial advice would most probably cost you very little, maybe even nothing. This applies as well to the price of services offered. Who am I to say how much a certain company would charge you in your specific case ? It depends as well on where you are located. If this is Pattaya I may help anybody by recommending a specialized lawyer via PM, if in Bangkok or elsewhere out in the country I do not know. What I do know for certain is that the adress I would give you will very most probably make you happy with all your requirements since I did make the same recommendation to others who then gave a very good feedback.
  12. When my will was made, my wife got of course one copy and the executor itself. Same for the Living Will that I would as well recommend to order with a reputable specialist.
  13. Unfortunately the only sensible answer here. "goes well" I would translate as "just acceptable", but what can you do. It is a question of shelf life, not taste. Of course original whipping cream (or half/half - I did not try that) is much better taste-wise, but the pack lasts only about 3 days in the fridge once opened. The last resort would be to buy the smallest packs available, but this does not change the shelf life and this solution is still expensive. No idea why they do not sell the "standard" coffee milk one is used to in Europe and which lasts ages.
  14. The following is for assets in Thailand only if this would be of interest. It might be valid for other assets as well, but this I cannot confirm with certainty. I have a will set up by a lawyer company specialized in the subject which has executed hundreds of wills of foreign nationals in Thailand. It is in English and Thai in the same document. My lawyer told me that only the Thai version matters in this case. The "translation" could be the latest tale of Mickey Mouse and it would not matter at all. It is as well advisable to have a clause in the text that if some part of it were illegal or not enforceable, then this would not render the rest invalid. This clause is standard for other contracts as well - not only wills. It is called a severability clause (Salvatorische Klausel). Do yourself a favour and do not write the will by yourself. You can have a 100% professional document which fully complies with Thai Law for a few thousand THB.

    Leffe Blonde

I am sure now since I have been to Central yesterday and they stock both Leffe blonde and Leffe brune (small bottle). You find it where the refridgerated beverages are.
  16. Maybe the country is not of importance but some believe maybe that being abroad at all is suspicious in this case. There are thousands of people believing thousands of abstruse things - that the world is flat, the Orange One a perfect president, Russia is only defending itself, beans for breakfast are more a must than an emetic, legalizing pot the beginning of the apocalypse and that religions are fundamentally bad plus plus plus. I believe that the only thing of importance here is that again someone has lost his life, regardless of where he did travel and what nationality the killer might have.
  17. Dr. Google is not qualified for such a controversial issue and a PSA of 6, let alone 11 would concern me. Apart from the value the change rate is important. Go see an urologist immediately and he would know what to do in your specific case. But dont wait. No self medication as well. Never ever do downplay this issue. Advice from a cancer patient with highly agressive cancer (Gleason Score 8). The score may only be obtained after a puncture. You would rather go for that than having cancer in all its aspects, and there are many. Promise.
  18. Why you ask me and then give the answer by yourself ? What you write is correct. But Steinhäger is a quality spirit and no compare to Lao Khao - which is - as I said before - made of rice. The drinking ritual seems to be a bit similar, though, that's why I mentioned it.
  19. Wrong. Lao Khao is not made of sugar cane but of rice. It is drunk a bit in the fashion like a North-German would drink his Beer with Korn. The "Korn" (Steinhänger or similar) from a small glass, very cold and very quick, followed by a gorgeous gulp of beer. Although the Lao Khao might be warm as would be the beer. This combination has a rather drastic effect on you being drunk very quickly. Depending on availability I say some drinking Lao Khao without beer (beer is expensive) are almost always doomed to be a heavy alcoholic. In the country they drink a bit as well in the very early morning.
  20. For me these certain times are when I feel like eating those "certain foods". And this is the only thing that matters - whether it is Sushi at 3 o'clock in the night or a steak at 5 o'clock in the morning or toasts and eggs at midnight (all which are real examples). My Gastroenterologist does not agree that is the optimum but I did convince her that this is the way I want to live and basta. I have been to special food advisors before telling me how much (meat 125 gr. or so ???????? and when to eat. I told them that there is no book in the world which can tell me that. I eat when I like it and as much as I like and whatever food I feel hungry for. If I then see that this has consequences then I can prioritize the way I like it. But it is my decision. Maybe I would change, maybe not. She does not like me anymore so much but I was not born to please my doctor, either.
  21. Obviously a man of taste. Congratulations. Could change the Nestle Water, though. Mont Fleur is tasty.
  22. Some people here call it whisk(e)y. From the smelling I would call it gasoline and I would not be surprized if it worked like that as well.
  23. I would not mind a nice Miso Soup, but not the cold leftovers of cuttlefish from yesterdays dinner to go with it please. Neither maple syrup, in fact pancaces are not really a necessity. But maybe Corn Flakes in cold milk ? Bacon as well, but please the soft version. I know a hotel where they have 3 different grades of Bacon. Coffee or tea depending on the mood but for sure NO BEANS and potatoes to spoil the setting after all. Oh and I forgot: Eggs Benedict, not scrambled or fried if possible.
  24. Ever tried "Natto" ? Khao Tom is heaven in comparison. And if you mention Spain, you should mention Italy for breakfast as well - they like sweet sugared bread etc. The best is a combination of things you like from all countries: For me this means, no beans by all means, but sushi why not, curry why not and the standard US/German selection is all more than welcome if not expected to be on offer.
  25. How to stop: The only way to stop shooting, stabbing, pressing red knobs etc. etc. is training of the mind. I am absolutely convinced of that. Why this does not happen: It is actually happening, although slowly slowly slowly. The reasons are complicated. But this should not prevent every single fellow from trying again and again and again.
