Sooner or later people will need to realize that it's no one's business to limit the choices of experience in this world.  Prostitution is just a single issue of endless other issues that have at their basis the same concept of allowing or disallowing others the right to pursue their own freedoms.

Unfortunately some choices of experience create victims, damage others or limit others' choices. Where is the line? Do you agree that child prostitution, forced prostitution and injury and mutilation are beyond legitimate choice? Which choices are legitimate? What is 'free' will? Does a 20 year old heroin addict agreeing to be gangraped in front of a camera exercise her free will, do the ones participating engage in an act of consenting adults which is nobody's business?

I'm still waiting to hear a reasonable reason why prostitution is good.  Who here would tell their 17 or 18 year-old daughter (or son) that they should be considering a career in selling themselves?

My daughter has the advantage of a variety of choices as to what to do with her life while securing survival and some comfort. I advice her against selling herself, be it through prostitution, marrying somebody for security, wasting her prime years in a job she doesn't like, or anything else. In some families the choices are rather limited, and within the legal and cultural framework of some societies, a career in prostitution is a viable option.

Again, though, as long as we're talking about adults, adults should have the right to throw away their lives as they see fit.  I do agree with that.

People don't throw their lives away, they make choices as they see fit. This is where your morality comes in, although you keep denying this.

Whatever people say about guns here. As a Thai I will stick to my big brother's wisdom and when we move to LOS, we will get a gun or two

 

Let me tell you about my brother, he took early retirement last year as a police officer, a police General in fact. When we went to LOS we stayed at his house. He told me that hence we got young children with us he is NOT CARRYING A GUN!  Then he told us that he carries his gun with him around the HOUSE at all time. When he sits on the sofa watching TV the gun is alway alongside him. I think I got the best advice regarding guns from the best person . And please don't get me wrong ,my brother is a really decent man and don't believe in killing anyone. He told me in all his career he has never killed anyone, shot them may be but never aimed to kill.

This is a retired policeman. And this shows how much trouble it is, if you want a gun to be an effective tool for selfdefense, carrying it needs to become second nature.

I hope you consider the possiblilty that this guy may well be willing and able to use other resources outside legal procedures, if it came to a disagreement about 1.1 m bth. I would have a lawyer or p.i. research his past dealings and activities.

I was involved on the periphary of a similar situation a few years ago.

It is customary for police to do a background check with the family of a caught druguser, even with small amounts. The fact they want to investigate you further, after surveying your properties, could be someone being overofficious, or, as mentioned above, indicate there is more to the story than you know.

I'd follow the advice to get a lawyer immediately, and find out what best to do, friendly cooperation with the police during the interview, or insisting to be informed about the situation and allegations in detail first, or refuse to get involved at all directly and leave it to the lawyer to communicate with the authorities.

Speak to a lawyer before the interview, and postpone the interview if necessary, you can do this without consequences, don't let yourself be intimidated.

BTW, the 100.000 bth sounds like an official amount for bail for a small amount of yabba, it is not necessarily a pay-off. 'Semi-official' release charges are substancially less than this.

Yala, Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla and Hat Yai are getting less pricey.

These beautiful spots are very underrated, there is enormous potential, specially for attracting the more adventurous travellers. There are charming seaside resorts where one can find tranquility and relaxation, communities with the infrastructure for the more discerning and businessoriented expats are to be found in Hat Yai and port cituies like Songklah.

Let me summarise:

You need more money than Thais, because

- you need to eat out in restaurants serving foreign food, and like to drink imported drinks in bars.

- you need a lage comfy place to live in, to accomodate colourful buttaflies to keep your company.

- you need funds to pay for 'buttaflies' services.

On the other hand,

- you don't understand why a Thai would ask for more than 5000bth per month, because this should be enough for them.

- you carefully pick your regular girlfriend for not having any relatives, so there won't be any 'dead buffalos' needeing the odd bit of care and attention.

Looks like we got ourselves a prime example of a farang who understands, loves and cares for Thailand and its people!

I think bus drivers have a schedule of rounds to fulfill. Together with taxi drivers they are the main menace to pedestrians and motorcycles. Unfortunatly these guys are also treated favorably by traffic police.

I don't understand why buses couldn't close the doors before they drive off?

It also is common sense not to try to board a moving bus.

In England there are still red buses without doors, and the conductor signals to the driver when it's safe to move.

I will print up my own thaivisa discount card, pointing out to people I am spethial.

Maybe for the same reasons farangs want 60.000, 100.000 or more to spend in a month. It makes life more comfortable, doesn't it?

Above poll seemingly indicates that:

- Mojority would settle for less than 100K Baht/month.

- Some higher figures could be achiveable in Los for some

and for some little exaggeration.

-200K<...>250K should be overseas earning to my estimation.

What could be achievable is a very different perspective with different answers!

It is easy to generalise and make assumptions.

"-Thais don't pay as much for having sex partner." What is the basis for this statement? Girlfriend, mia noi, casual sex, commercial sex? This statement doesn't make sense, specially not for justifying that farangs need more money than Thais.

"-Most farangs can't eat thai food all the time." Does it cost more to fry some potatoes and a porkshop at home? Does this make a substancial difference in expenses?

"-Most farangs don't like to stay home and drink somthing called mehkong." Maybe most Thais don't like it either? Is your barhopping the reason you need more money?

"-Most farangs need to pay "At least 10,000 Bhat for accommodtion" Why? What's wrong with a room for 2000 Baht?

These are excuses, there is no necessity for farangs to spend more on these things than Thais. Of course you want to be comfortable, but let's not pretend this is why you 'need' more money than a Thai.

I think totster couldn't make it one day later, Brown Cheetah, but two days would be fine by me, I don't fancy a noisy gig at the Dubliner, so i'd be in the beergarden on the Saturday.

In Bangkok that would be sharing a room with 1 or 2 others who share expenses. You can't sustain a family on this amount if you are the sole earner, unless you stay rent free, i.e. squatting or own the place.

It does support a VIP room, and all sorts of 'odd' moderator features.

Well considering the only people with the power to ban are the admins, all the other mods only have the power to remove posting rights (suspend, not ban). Checking over Tornys account, hes not been suspended and theres nothing to say hes banned either... So its a mystery to me.
