Do you believe in St. Claus as well?

    :o:D:D:D:D:wub:

  2. This poll more concentrated on places that attract tourist, because

i am trying to target toursit in future.  I have also leaved out bangkok

i am quite fimilier with this city. The downside about BKK is nothing to

do day time, except to work, and not much differs from some other

part of the worlds in some aspects.

Nothing to do daytime in BKK? There is nothing much to do in other parts of Thailand either, only activities not much different from other parts of the world, even the islands are surrounded by the same kind of sea as elsewhere. :D

"Target tourist in future"??? :D What do you mean? :o

  3. I can never understand how millions of Thai population survive as their average earning mostly is under 10000bth a month? I am a Thai living in UK, may be I am out of touch of how my people live? :D

I have seen it so many times here people(farangs) arguing about you can't live on such and such amount of money and it s impossible to do so.

This is about foreigners living in Thailand. They have expenses Thais don't have.

The required income/money iin the bank for visa purposes alone is enough for a small village to survive, perhaps the Thai government is out of touch with reality as well, then?

Speaking for myself, I need to make 10.000Baht /month just to cover the expenses of visa fees, associated travel and a yearly trip to Europe to visit my family. And this is low, it means staying with friends or in budget accomodation when traveling.

Further, in contrast to most Thais I know, I consider private medical and accident insurance imperative, as well as a pension plan. I do not intend to live off my daughter and her cousins when I get ill or old.

Agreed, without any of this, me and my 3 women (daughter, gf and her mother) could live on 6000 Baht/month in the village, no problem for me, there is a phone line, homegrown sticky rice and free range eggs from our chickens, high potency Lao Kao delivered for 30bth/plastic bag. Actually, as I am writing, I wonder why I am not doing this? :o

The girls would have to make do without their cellphones and other toys, though, this move would make me somewhat unpopular. :D

Prostitutes and beggars to face deportation

    Over 6,000 prostitutes arrested

BANGKOK, Nov 12 (TNA) -- Social Development and Human Security Minister Sora-at Klinpratoom today unveiled a new crackdown on beggars and prostitutes, warning that foreign victims of such rackets would face immediate deportation.

Speaking after the ministry's monthly meeting, Mr. Sora-at said that the deportations would follow an agreement recently signed in Myanmar by five countries in the region.

Prior to deportation, all the foreigners will, however, undergo rehabilitation and skills training.

Mr. Sora-at said that liaison with Cambodia on the issue of deportation was currently more advanced than liaison with other countries, with the establishment of a joint committee to address the problem of human trafficking.

He also pointed to a clear division of labour among immigrants from different countries, with Cambodians turning to begging, while people from Myanmar working in local factories, and people from Laos working as domestic servants.

Acknowledging that the problem had been insufficiently studied in the past, the minister promised that from now on, the issue would be tackled at its roots.

"This is offensive action to solve the problem of poverty, in line with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's pronouncements on poverty elimination throughout the country", he said, adding that the crackdown would require close cooperation with local officials.

Last year police from Bangkok's Lumpini district arrested over 4,000 prostitutes, with a further 2,500 arrested from January to October this year.

Prostitutes, beggars, illegal immigrants, poverty, through it all in one basket, and the solution is to deport the lot. That will solve the issue of poverty at its roots. Another fine idea of shameless leader. Another major blunder by the Thai government.

"This is offensive action ..." - indeed.

  5. The picture that emerged was one of poverty, debts and low education.

Some.... had been forced into the sex trade by debts.

He also promised ... to address the problem at its roots.

What is the solution? "fines for prostitution standing at a mere Bt1,000" is too low? Is this the root of the problem? Raising the fines will help the prostitutes to handle their debts?

Is he that thick, or is the article written to make it look this way? The article doesn't mention any suggestions made by Klinpratoom to tackle the root of the problem. To merely establish that "The picture that emerged was one of poverty, debts and low education" you don't need an army of psychologists and social workers, I could have told him this after walking through Lumpini park once, without fining anybody.

  6. Right, <deleted>, but the good news is the cops have him in custody now....

This was yesterday. Being a 'moderste drug user' having launched a 'moderate' attack on a farang, I guess he received a 'moderate' telling off and is back hunting punters for a 'ride' by now.
  7. Just been to 'inspect' the venue.

    What?:

Quietish, 'family-friendly' bar/restaurant with a multipage menu with Thai and Western dishes, standard Thai from 70bt. Beer Chang as well as Singha on tap, 50 and 55bt per mug. Not to be confused with the beergarden on Soi 7!

    Where?:

Itis on the right side of Sukhumvit Soi 8, and has a large neon sign "Beergarden Sukhumvit 8", can't be missed.

    BTS: Nana

If you travel by car and are not fimiliar with the one-way system in the area and find yourself on the 'wrong' side of Suk, I advise to park there or leave the Taxi at one of the 2 pedestrian overpasses: Suk/corner Soi7 or in front of the Ambassador Hotel. Soi8 is on the other side between the two overpasses, and so is Nana BTS station.

Kao chai dai, kao chai mai?

    :o:D
  8. I don't mind giving Chonabot a lift as well, he has the reputation to always carry a six-pack of Chang with him. Cruising around without the lights on sounds cool, I always wanted to see how fast one can go from central Bangkok to the gates of the correctional institute in Lad Yao. I'll bring some birds from certified sources.

  9. Are you sure you will be able to stay awake this late without the aid of illegal stimulants? :o

Anyway, I'll be looking out for a slender coneshaped head by the roadside tonight, I'll be glad to give you a lift to your destination, but don't take it personal if I leave you alone for the unavoidable culmination of the night, - waiting for the test results inside the local police station. Better bring some sandwiches along, but avoid poppyseed bagles and don't take any geritol during the day, or it could be rather expensive to get negative test results. :D:D

  10. Thai gold shops can be trusted for the quality of the gold, but some may try to add ficticious charges, when they realise you're a 'newbie'.

By contrast, the run of the mill gold shop knows nothing about precious stones, and it is not uncommon to find the cheapest kind of imitation set in genuine gold. Gemstone jewellery is better bought in gemshops, as a rule, but you do need to inform yourself beforehand, plenty of scams in this department.

    I hope this helps.
