I used to live on a road that had 3 roundabouts....50% of the traffic traversed them in the wrong direction.
So 50% got it right

Why did Thailand agree to host this conference? did they expect the whole world to come & give them a big slap on the back & thumbs up for their treatment of endangered species?

Any chance of you sharing it with the rest of us?

Not sure it was wise to post about a 1.8m+ baht 200sq m condo for sale on a public forum. I imagine there might be a great deal of demand for it now. My understanding was 103 #4 was well run & is in a decent location.

Roundabouts is the solution, but, for some reason, Thais love their u-turns - traffic in the fast lane slows down to u-turn into opposing fast lane
roundabouts are ok if they are used properly. cant see the I have to get in front of you thai using it properly. what I have experienced on many thai roads is
a little thing called good manners. which the thais don't have. in Guernsey they have where if the roundabout has say 4 lanes coming into it
they take it in turns to go on the roundabout and it does work
Improperly used roundabouts should be safer than improperly used u-turns.

Don't you just hate it at a U-turn and some <deleted> jumps your queue, pulls in front so you can't now see oncoming traffic ? One of the few times l really get angry and want to.............
Sorry
Just kidding

It's probably the weather more than anything else, Though the trend over many years is an improving one.
I'm near the cost now (Pattaya-Sattahip area) and its actually more hazy here now.
Better come home then

Motorbikes are hard to see at u-turns, especially if slow moving. Often hidden by windscreen pillar left side. Car driver needs to look at least twice to give them a chance to move into vision. Motorbikers, be sure to have your headlight on & expect the driver not to have seen you. I ALWAYS take a second look before turning for this reason.

many Russians are warm and caring people actually - have many of you been to Russia? I have many times - this stereotyping wears a bit thin
I was friends with a number of Russians when I lived in Europe and most of them were fine people. I also knew some Russians who had lived in America for many years and were my neighbors when I lived there. They were extremely decent people whom I liked very much. Unfortunately, many of the Russians who come to Thailand on cheap holiday are very poorly behaved, disrespectful, only deal with Russian merchants/travel agents, etc. and cut the local Thais out of making any money from tourism. Most never bothered to take a peek on the Internet or open a book to learn some of the customs here before coming. The same could be said that the Chinese tourists are poorly behaved, although they are less "in your face". Both the Russians and the Chinese are, for the most part, new world travelers and hopefully over time they will become more aware...
I won't even begin to get into the criminal element that some of the Russians bring here.
Chiang Mai tends to attract the creme de la creme of most nationalities, so it should be no different for Russian visitors

After all the reports of possible blackouts next month, they now want to export what they struggle to supply to the local market. Beggars belief what these clowns will announce next.

Oh boy, the Thais are "signaling." They don't just state, discuss, articulate or debate. They "signal." If you read Chris Baker's incredible insight in to Thais and Thai behavior and Thai business protocols, he dedicates an entire chapter to Thais "signaling" with hand signals and gestures about striking "under the table" deals about everything from forestry products, water, elephants,,etc.. Thais, they sure know how to "signal."
Apart from when driving......

Thankyou,by the way was they 4 point sensors?? Thanks again..No 2 point. They said that 4 point was not an option due to the bumper lay-out, it angles down where the No. plate is mounted.
Not true...I got 4 point sensors and they work just fine...there are 2 on each side and not under the plate space...
I also just had some sensors installed at Boy Air and Sound. When i spoke to them there they said can only put 2 point, i told them this was not true and that 4 points is possible, left the truck there and came home - they were busy.
Got a phone call a bit later and said again only 2 sensors possible, could n't be bothered with trying to explain again so told them to put the 2 sensors most outwards on bumper, almost directly under tail lights.
Went to pick the truck up later in the day and guess what....... 4 sensors - all working - <deleted>??? After so many years here this place continues to baffle me! total cost 3K.
So today i wake up early 06:15 and go to back out the truck from my drive way, throw it in reverse and one continuos tone, gate open, nothing behind me?? Pissed off i make plans to go back and ask them <deleted>? on the way i stop for coffee and mess about reversing for a bit and all sensors now working??
I can only assume it has something to do with the moisture in the air first thing in the morning that may affect them?? Anyone else had an experience like this? All sensors are working fine now - no issues.
I will se what happens tomorrow morning
Mine kept malfunctioning when first installed. Took them back to be "worked on". A km or 2 down the road, playing up again. Took them back, they replaced the "black box" for the sensors inside the tail light housing.

Are there still wild elephants in Thailand? If so their habitats are shrinking because the economy must grow, something we all agree with, don't we?
Less of the we, please

I noticed grouper in the frozen food section, Makro, yesterday, but I doubt it was the same one - even that tank at Airport Plaza didn't magnify that much

Rain
in Chiang Mai
Speaking of Nan I just came back from there. Nice and cool in the cloudy weather. The sad part is the hill tribe people cut down all the forests and planted corn on the steep hillsides. They get one small cob of corn for each stalk planted. Corn has traditionally been a LOWLAND plant because it needs a LOT of water to grow properly. When you moonscape the hillsides of all the native trees and plants the result is every heavy rain washes away the soil, and the country dries out in the hot sun. You are then left with a flood - drought syndrome. I hate being negative towards locals, but the evidence is there for all to see. It's like the other problem with Thais and their environment... everything that slithers, slides, hops, jumps, walks, runs, flies or swims gets eaten. Even if it lies there inert it get eaten if it is remotely edible.
Just to point out last year the head men started handing out 25 rai plots of forest to us locals, on the way to it being chanoted.
We were told to cut down the forest and plant a crop of some kind if we were to get full title to said plots.
Use it or lose it. Corn would be cheap to plant, and demonstrate you were using it.
I'm guessing the plots you saw were part of this scheme ...... so blame the government not the people.
I don't want to cut down my bit of forest, but I will if I have to.
Why not plant coffee under the forest canopy? That way you demonstrate use of land & preserve the forest.
