  1. There are plenty in Bangkok.

Just 3 days ago I went to one right next to Exchange Tower. Maybe someone can help with a name as I didn't pay attention. 7 Thais and one Westerner (me). Total price 3800 baht including 4 hours at the Karaoke booth and insane amount of food.

    No one drunk Alcohol.

OP is talking about Chiang Mai, You've made this mistake before. We're in Chiang Mai, you're in Bangkok. Please don't stick your feet in your mouth again thumbsup.gif

  2. I think the OP has over estimated the problem with his Friends! So he has had an op for prostrate. That being done, he should be on the mend and hopefully good for another ten years. Barring any medical issues, they should be reasonably stable on their feet and observant to watch out for everyday obstacles to make sure they stay on their feet. We run a little Resort on Koh Samui and frequently have retired couples come and stay with us. Our observation is that quite often when they arrive, they are perhaps a little stiff and unfit. But because of the warmer climate and the fact that they start getting out and about (exercise), they very quickly regain their vigor and anden (within reason) zest for life. Personally I am 71. I run nearly every day with my labrador (okay he's quicker than me over the short distance) followed by some anaerobic exercise. When opportunity arises, I am off (with my lovely Wife) exploring the World where ever the fancy takes me. If anyone should have the ordasity to suggest to me that I am too old and infirm to do so...............I would be absolutely livid. They may be Senior Citizens, but would be surprised, at 70+, they are as decrepit as you are suggesting, and there are many places they are physically capable of visiting, including in Thailand, before you condemn them to a wheel chair and commode. It might be what they need to get out of the rut of sitting in the house, watching tv, day in and day out.

A beach resort is probably a better proposition. If it was my parents visiting Chiang Mai & getting taken care of by my wife & myself, fine. Independent travellers, to Chiang Mai, no, IMHO. Read the OP again.

Thank you, but I don't need to read the OP again. He suggested Chiang Mai, not me, I suggested Koh Samui, which has beaches nearly all around it. As I have said, we have hosted many Senior Citizens here without a problem, there are also a plethora of good hospitals within a short distance of most Resorts. MaeJomMTB - I will probably out live you, if truth be know, but you will never know, but thank you for the spelling correction. You clearly have a very, very small circle of Friends?

This is the Chiang Mai forum. OP posted "I have elderly friends in UK who want to come on holiday here early next year. Both in 70’s a bit frail, but GP says OK to travel. Hubby recently had prostate surgery and wife is partially disabled. A big tourist hotel would obviously not suit."

    No mention of Samui.

  4. Hi MESmith,

Thanks for your response . I will try getting the red car from kad Suan keaw . Thanks

Pretty sure he meant "go shopping" at Kad Suan Kaew instead of at Central Festival.

Yep, I really can't get my head around folk trying to get to the most difficult to get to malls on public transport. If you live in the city centre with no transport of your own, you can go to KSK, Maya & Airport plaza. CF & Promenada are for those with their own transport. Same shops in most of them, apart from Promenada which is a lifestyle mall (read nothing there worth going to).

  5. Took exactly a week for mine to be delivered and returned,a bit slower than

last time, the slip had the passport page for an American lady on the back,

complete with photo and all details, just hope mine does not end up in the

hands of some ID thief, the on-line did not work for me, i think you have to

have entered the country after 2013 ?

    regards worgeordie

It's just not fair. Mine came back with a blank page on the back. Should I go back to Immigration & demand a new receipt?

  6. Licences revoked after tour bus crash

    The Nation December 23, 2015 6:01 pm
THE LAND Transport Department Wednesday cancelled bus driver Somporn Bualuang’s driving licence and suspended his boss’s tour bus licence following the deadly accident in Chiang Mai’s Doi Saket district on Sunday that killed at least 13 people.
Somporn faces the charge of reckless driving causing others' deaths and injuries after he crashed the bus into another car, hit a power pole and fell off the moutainous road, resulting in the deaths of 13 Malaysian tourists and one Thai tour guide, and leaving 12 people, including himself, injured.

Land Transport Department chief Sanith Phromwong Wednesday revealed that besides revoking Somporn's driving licence because he drove carelessly and caused tragic several deaths, the department had also ordered the Chiang Mai Provincial Land Transport Office to immediately revoke the business licence of the tour bus operator.

"The company failed to regulate its bus driver from exceeding the speed limit," Sanith said, adding the department would also follow through if the wounded and the deceased persons' families had received aid.

Sanith also affirmed that for the upcoming New Year, the department would strictly inspect bus drivers and bus conditions to ensure safety. Urging bus operators to keep a close eye on their drivers, he warned that they might be held responsible and their licence cancelled if any road accident happened because of the driver's carelessness or the condition of the bus.

I hope this is the future here with crazy driving.

  7. The last movie I saw at the cinema in CM was "captain corelli's mandolin". They put the reels on in the wrong order. Never been back since....

    Gee.... was that last century?

2001. To be honest, I prefer to watch alone with family. Other people munching on snacks, taking phone calls, or even just breathing annoy me in the cinema.

  8. Thanks for the replies. Bought a box of Robertson Winery (South Africa) red from Rimping this afternoon. Reason why? I guessed 3 litre box at same price as 4 or 5 should be better, get what you pay for etc. Saw the Mar Y Sol at Makro for 749 bt. Nearly bought it, but opinion here on TV was 1-1 at the time. Quite a bit more at Rimping. Verdict on the Robertson. It's okay, from 1st glass with a Thai veggie red curry (not too spicy).

    Cheers smile.png
