  1. The citizens of Chiang Mai must be expecting a deluge of biblical proportions, seeing how they all seemed to be in MAKRO stocking up, after the storm hit laugh.png

  2. my new slip from CM Immigration has the bar code.....I'm from the US if that is making a difference.

as does mine from 80+ days ago

They all do...sorry no special benefits...even for Americans.

Mine doesn't. UK passport. Only reported by mail (1 time, last month) not in person.

  3. I wouldn't have thought that those flimsy lanterns would be a problem for a jet engine. I have seen tests done on a Rolls Royce jet engine that managed to ingest a dead goose without problems

Was it on fire and in the air?

It was a ground test with the engine bolted to a test frame, the engine was running and the goose, followed by a couple of chicken carcasses i believe were fired out of a pipe under high pressure to simulate a speeding aircraft, no damage to the engine, lot of burnt mince meat. I think you can find it o youtube
Mine was a tongue in cheek reference to the fact that fire and altitude aren't replicated in ground tests.

Posts to this forum often go "way over" some reader's heads, at very high altitude, sometimes laugh.png

  4. The problem in the cold season is we get an inversion layer at night which prevents the smoke pollution & car exhaust pollution escaping to higher levels at night. I was out & about this morning at about 7.30. Sunrise over the eastern hills was nice yellow sun (clean air). In the middle of the CM valley where I live, everything seemed fine. closer to the eastern hills, air quality was poor & visibility less than 1 km. Then as I traveled up to the edge of the valley, and got just a little bit higher (canal road running south towards Lamphun), the air was much clearer. Sadly, many fires were observed on my outing sad.png

  5. I got pulled over turned from Mahidol into Hang Dong Rd today. My 2557 sticker was 4 days overdue. My fault.

The cop had his face covered in a white face mask. Pollution? Maybe. Disguise? Maybe.

He told me in Thai what was wrong. I said I understand. He said 400 baht. Can pay the ticket over at the police box on the corner. I said ok.

He starts writing the ticket and then says in English "I can help you". I said I am ok with the ticket.

He writes "Chevrolet" on the ticket, which actually looked pretty much filled out. I waited. He stopped and said again "I can help you".

I said how much. He said 200 baht. I said 100 baht is ok. He said ok. I gave him 100 baht. He gave me license back. He stopped the traffic to let me move out and told me to update the registration.

In plain sight, broad daylight at a busy corner.

I felt guilty all the way home that I should have insisted on the ticket so the Cop didn't get the money.

Wish I'd had time to set up my iPhone to video him, but I was not expecting the cop stop.

Isn't there a "grace" period for out of date tax sticker?

  6. I would much rather take a taxi home but the reality is ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ONE that is willing to take me at 2am or 3am

So drink and drive anyway ?

Hope you do not injure or kill someone - especially the wrong someone. Who will take a - shall we say - interest in you.

Where does DK say he drives over the legal limit? Having a few beers & food & water over the course of a night out doesn't make you a DRUNK driver. The fact that there is a level that is considered ok to be under indicates that drinking some alcohol is permitted. IMHO that level is set too low in Thailand. If you really want zero tolerance, try Saudi Arabia, but good luck because some drive totally drunk over there...

And the sober ones are just as bad w00t.gif

  7. Really possible now seeing as there are no forms to be filled out. Your next appointment paper has a bar code that is simply swiped and hey presto...all details come up with date of next showing and away you go.

What barcode? My 90 day report 2 weeks ago didn't come back with a bar code. Had to fill in a form & send photocopies of stuff. Guess you're not in CM?
