Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul attended the opening bell ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange on 24 September, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and the NYSE.
The event, held at 9.30am New York local time, was intended to promote Thailand's business potential and readiness to global investors. Anutin became the third Thai prime minister to take part in the NYSE opening bell ceremony.
Wider access to global investors
Government spokesman Ekapol Pienpises said the SET-NYSE cooperation would help Thai companies reach international investors and global funding sources.
He said it was intended to support fundraising, business expansion and cross-border investment. It should also give overseas investors greater visibility of Thai companies and emerging industries, potentially attracting investment, technology and new projects into Thailand.

The memorandum of understanding is viewed by the prime minister as more than an agreement between two stock exchanges, Ekapol said. It reflects the growing economic relationship between Thailand and the United States and is expected to bring the two countries' capital markets closer together.
Thailand seeks investment and jobs
The United States is one of Thailand's most important economic partners, while New York remains a major global financial centre. Closer cooperation between the NYSE and SET is expected to create opportunities for companies and investors in both countries, deepen market links and encourage more cross-border investment.
Ekapol said the signing marked an important step towards turning that potential into practical cooperation.
"The prime minister wants to turn interest from global investors into real economic opportunities, including investment, business expansion and job creation, so that the benefits reach Thai people," he said.
For expatriate entrepreneurs and foreign businesses already operating in Thailand, the development signals the government's effort to present Thai firms and sectors to a wider pool of international capital. It does not, on its own, change Thai rules on foreign ownership, investment licences, visas or securities trading.
