Korat boy, 4, needs 30 stitches after dog attack

A four-year-old boy required 30 stitches after a dog jumped at him and bit his head and left side of his forehead in a Nakhon Ratchasima community. His family says the animal remains at large and has asked authorities to intervene to prevent another attack.

The incident happened at about 5.50pm on 9 August at Rom Yen Village, Moo 4, Soi 2, Hua Thale subdistrict, in Mueang district of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The boy, a Kindergarten 2 pupil, had been playing with a group of four children, including siblings, when the dog entered the area. It then reportedly leapt at the child, biting his head and left forehead so severely that blood ran down his face.

He ran back to his grandparents for help and was taken to hospital, where doctors stitched his wounds.

Family says child is now frightened of dogs

The boy's grandfather, 51-year-old Surachai, showed reporters the injury to the child's head, where stitch marks were still clearly visible.

He said his grandson has become frightened whenever he sees a dog and is no longer willing to go near one.

Owner paid 500 baht and gave snacks

Surachai said the family tried to identify the dog after the attack and learned it belonged to a nearby resident.

According to the grandfather, the owner initially denied that the dog was theirs. The owner later accepted this and brought the family 500 baht and some snacks as a gesture of comfort, saying they had no money and did not know how else to help.

Reporters who visited the area attempted to find the dog, which was believed to be staying in woodland near the community, but did not locate it.

Residents told reporters they fear the dog could return and attack another person, particularly a child. The boy's family has asked relevant agencies to inspect the case and find a way to control the animal.
