Man Detained After Bomb Remark on Krabi Flight

A 45-year-old man was detained after making a bomb remark aboard a flight preparing to depart from Krabi, forcing a temporary suspension of operations and a full security sweep. The incident occurred at 17:20 on 26 April 2026 on a Krabi–Suvarnabhumi service at Krabi International Airport. All passengers were evacuated and luggage removed as officers conducted checks, with no suspicious items found.

Police at Nuea Khlong station in Krabi were alerted by airline staff after the male passenger reportedly said “watch out for a bomb” while placing his bag in the overhead compartment. Cabin crew, who heard the remark, sought clarification but the man repeated the same phrase. The captain then halted the flight and ordered the aircraft to return to the stand while authorities were informed.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers from Krabi Provincial Police were deployed to inspect the aircraft and all passenger baggage in detail. The search took several hours and concluded with no evidence of any explosive device or threat. Authorities focused particular attention on the suspect’s belongings during the operation.

The man, identified only as a 45-year-old from Chon Buri, was taken into custody for questioning. According to investigators, he admitted making the remark as a joke out of high spirits. Police subsequently charged him with knowingly spreading false information likely to cause panic among people at an airport or on a plane, under the Air Navigation Offences Act B.E. 2558 (2015).

ThaiRath reported that the offence carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine of up to 200,000 baht, or both. Officials reiterated that such remarks are strictly prohibited on aircraft due to safety protocols and the potential to disrupt operations. The suspect remains subject to legal proceedings as the case moves forward.

Couple Charged Over Bomb Remark on Krabi Flight

A husband and wife have been charged after making a bomb remark on a flight at Krabi International Airport, triggering a major security response and a delay of hours. The incident took place on 26 April 2026 on Thai AirAsia flight AIQ 4401, an Airbus A320 operating from Krabi to Suvarnabhumi. Authorities found no explosives after a prolonged inspection.

Police said the pair, a 45-year-old Thai man and 43-year-old Thai woman, made the comment “watch out for a bomb” while airline staff were assisting with stowing luggage in the overhead compartment. The remark prompted crew to alert the captain, who immediately halted the flight. All passengers were ordered to disembark as security protocols were activated.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers from Krabi Provincial Police conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and all baggage. One bag was removed for special inspection, while every item on board was checked under strict procedures. The operation took more than five hours and concluded with no explosive devices or illegal items found.

Pol Maj Gen Sukkasem Nakornwilai, commander of Krabi Provincial Police, said the crew acted promptly after hearing the remark and implemented full safety measures. The suspect told officers he was travelling with a group of about 30 people and made the comment casually without intent. Both suspects admitted the statement was made jokingly.

Authorities have charged both passengers with providing false information causing panic and affecting aviation safety, as well as causing disruption to the airline and other passengers. The case falls under laws governing aviation safety offences, which carry serious penalties.

Deputy Transport Minister Phattharaphong Phatprasert said that although no threat was found, the incident caused significant disruption, delaying the flight by around four hours. He stressed that passenger and aviation safety is the highest priority and warned that any remarks causing alarm, whether intentional or joking, are illegal and will be dealt with strictly.

ThaiPBS reported that the suspects will face legal proceedings as investigators continue the case. Officials have reiterated that strict enforcement will remain in place to deter similar behaviour and protect flight safety standards.
