Pattaya Ladyboys Rob Swedish Tourist of 100,000 Baht

A 67-year-old Swedish tourist named Mahmoud reported being robbed of over 100,000 baht by a group of Thai ladyboys in Pattaya early on May 15. The incident occurred at the My View Condotel, where Mahmoud had invited two ladyboys after visiting entertainment venues on Pattaya Walking Street. An argument reportedly ensued, during which one of the suspects seized the opportunity to steal the tourist's safe key, taking off with cash equivalent to around 111,000 baht.

The theft included multiple currencies, comprising 67,500 baht, 800 euros, 2,000 Swedish krona, and 8 million Vietnamese dong. Mahmoud contacted Mueang Pattaya Police Station at about 3:40 am, prompting an immediate investigation by law enforcement at the condominium. Despite swift action, authorities have not yet apprehended any of the suspects involved in the case.

This incident adds to a growing trend in Pattaya, where ladyboys have been implicated in similar robberies targeting tourists. Investigations are ongoing, and local police are working to identify and locate the perpetrators. Concerns have emerged over the safety of tourists in the area, with law enforcement under pressure to address the escalating issue.

As the search for the suspects continues, authorities have urged tourists to exercise increased caution. The incident underscores the necessity for heightened security measures and awareness in tourist hotspots like Pattaya.

I said the condo was carrying the cash, not the guy. But hey, don't let actual reading comprehension get in the way of your daily trolling schedule.

You said he "invited two ladyboys to his condo carrying cash". Since when do condos "carry cash" when you're referring to a person?

One more "Swedish" Mahmoud in trouble.

"Swedish Meatball" would be a more accurate description of him.

Pretty simple really — I was referring to the cash being in the condo, not physically carried by a person. If you genuinely thought buildings have wallets, that might explain the confusion 😄

Ah, you didn't mean "carrying" so you actually used the word "carrying"... that clears up your confusion.

You knew exactly what was meant. But watching you pretend otherwise for three comments straight has been oddly entertaining 😄

Well, he was looking to get ''shafted'' by 2 LB (I guess that one LB wasn't enough because 2 LBs are twice the fun)

and at the end, he did got shafted, but the kind ''shafting'' he was hoping for.

One gets "shafted" by 1 LB.

With 2 LBs, one gets "spit-roasted," that's the whole point.

(btw, how long have you been in Pattaya? Or anywhere?)

Is there, I wonder, a South Asian sub-culture of insurance fraud based around Thai ladyboys? I seem to read this story repeatedly.

It is grammatically correct to refer to a location, group or entity as “carrying cash.” English uses this all the time through metonymy — where the container or entity represents the people or contents associated with it.

Examples:

• “The truck was carrying cash.”

• “The convoy was carrying weapons.”

• “The unit was carrying confidential documents.”

So when I said the condo was carrying cash, normal people understood the cash was associated with/in the condo — not that the building itself had little arms and pockets 😄

But thank you for your ongoing volunteer work as AN’s Deputy Grammar Sheriff. Would you like any more English lessons?

A Swedish tourist named Mahmoud… sounds like the start of a great joke…

Nah, seriously, bad stuff can happen to anybody who travels and takes ST or LT guests back to the hotel room. But well…no risk no fun.

Losing some money hurts but worse things can happen. I remember the case of a well-known musician who was on tour in the US and took a LB back to the room. He got robbed and claimed later he got drugged as well. He totally lost it, did run naked through the hotel and assaulted a woman when she opened her door.

This thing basically destroyed his career. Got stuck in the states until the law suit was settled and his reputation was out the window.

I’ve had an encounter with thieves once in a Phnom Penh massage parlour about 20 years ago but got lucky.

It can happen faster than you expect if you enter (or create) a high-risk environment…

When was the last time you saw a hotel safe with a key?

Last month. The digital option with code was broken hence the key. Happened in a few hotels. Now if they don’t repair it I check out. Too dodgy the key option. 🤷🏼

I am talking about relevance to the original story. How does Switzerland come into it other than the fact that it begins with an S, as does Sweden.

Now you've reminded me of a poster from way back with the avatar Meadish Sweetball. He seemed like a very pleasant guy, very helpful. He was on Thai Visa for years

He lived up in Chiang Mai with his Thai wife if I remember right

I wonder why he disappeared

Yes indeed.

I remember him too, now that you mention him.

Not a very prolific poster but he seemed like a decent sort.

In your wildest dreams you wouldn't see him in a situation where he loses a large sum of money to ladyboys.

Sleaze-by-the-Sea... just another one of Thailand's many facets.
