Ever since covid my wife has cut my hair, she does a great job I wouldn't go anywhere else,

This guy probably hasn't got a Phuket tuktuk yet. They will charge him more than an air conditioned taxi in Jordan, and many other countries, for that matter. 🙂

Given the difference in wages and overheads I would say no.

he'd already self identified as willing to pay well over the odds, its no surprised they tried it on, Wonder what the final bill was , how much was "too much" ?

Here in darkest surin its 60baht I generally give 100 and he always tries to give me change (which I decline)

If you AGREE to a 700 THB price for a HAIRCUT and then decide you want additional services that are not part of a normal HAIRCUT do you think it will be free? DUH....Its' not like the barber held a gun to the guys head....he quoted a price and customer agreeded...both are at fault as barber should have told customer that extras he wanted would cost extra and customer should have asked if extras were included in price or how much they would cost. There are barber shops on every corner so maybe grow a brain and ASK a few what their prices are for what services you want.

Just like with bar girl, be clear up front what services you expect and what you will pay....then if all of a sudden you decide you want her to spend the night or her sister /friend to join the party don't expect it will be free.

In fact at the police station the barber did not pursue the additional items only the damage to his glasses. Which would not have been damaged if he hadn't started a fight. The fact the barber did not pursue the additional cost leads me to believe that he was trying it on. It would be interesting to know what these additional services were since the did not mention additional cost or at the police station ask for those costs to be included. Smacks of scam to me.

I pay 150 baht for a haircut on Soi Baukhao.

Last time I was in Phuket, it was 200 baht just to get into a tuktuk, then the price went up from there. If it was raining, higher prices again, and why, because they can. Way more than an air conditioned taxi in Bangkok.

Phuket is just one big scam.

Off the subject but rent a car for 700/800 baht a day, then you dont have a worry one. Transfers from the airport taken care of and not a tuk tuk mafia worry one at all.

That you've never paid B700 for a haircut in Thailand does not mean that a B700 haircut is not in line with what a nice shop would charge in Bangkok. I generally pay B200, but I've paid as much as B950 and as little as B60.

I just checked, and the Holiday Inn in Phuket is about the same price as the Holiday Inn in Pattaya, and the Intercontinental in Phuket is much cheaper than the Intercontinental in Pattaya. I have stayed at all four hotels, and the I think the properties in Phuket are nicer.

I have not been to Phuket in in about five years, but I do not remember it being terribly expensive.

When was the last time you were there? Did you have some examples of terribly high-priced things in Phuket?
