Phuket cop's Glock discharge kills his mother

A 49-year-old woman has died after a 9mm Glock 19 pistol allegedly discharged inside a rented room in Phuket's Koh Kaew area late on September 24.

Police Corporal Chonthee, who reported the shooting, told investigators that a round remained in the chamber when he racked the slide of the government-issued handgun. The weapon then discharged, striking his mother in the head, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after midnight, with Phuket City Police called to the rented-room building in Moo 1, Soi Koh Kaew 3, Koh Kaew, in Phuket's Muang district.

Woman died after hospital treatment

The victim, identified as the 49-year-old mother of the reporting officer, was found with a serious gunshot injury to her head.

Emergency responders rushed her to Vachira Phuket Hospital for urgent treatment, but she later died from her injuries.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sakon Krainara, an investigator at Phuket City Police Station, attended the scene alongside Police Colonel Chatri Chukaew, the station superintendent, and other relevant officers.

Pistol and cartridge case seized

According to the preliminary police account, the pistol was a 9mm Glock 19 handgun belonging to the authorities. Police said one 9mm round was still in the chamber when the officer operated the slide.

Phuket provincial forensic officers inspected the rented room in detail and seized the handgun and a cartridge case found at the scene as evidence. The items will be submitted for forensic testing as part of the investigation.

Police and medical staff also carried out a post-mortem examination of the woman to gather evidence and establish the full facts of the shooting. Officers said legal procedures would follow.
