Phuket named top wellness choice by Canadian travellers

Gawd. Maybe 20y ago. Doubtless it still holds appeal, but... the Balearics and Greek isles are all over it like a cheap suit... and CHEAPER!

It depends what you mean by “wellness “ I think.

There are a plethora of Thai Muay Thai and mma training camps. So that is a type of wellness.

And the new thing in the last 2 years has been the establishment of many coffee shops/cafes that offer health conscious food (at exorbitant prices imho), plus there are quite a few meditation/yoga places.

And of course there are high end hotels that offer spa type experiences. There are even a few vegan restaurants, simple style, but they are there. The ubiquitous massage shops are everywhere, some more upmarket than others.

So yes, there are quite a few wellness options in Phuket and since they are all grouped fairly close together, I guess Phuket is quite a good option if looking for a wellness holiday.

On the downside, most of the wellness type places particularly in the south of the island, are pretty much targeted at younger people. These are fitness centers more than wind down and relax wellness.

The other issue is the additional distraction of sex related establishments (bars, massage shops) and the horrendous traffic that makes it dangerous to set foot on the road (very few pavements).

I wouldn’t personally rate it so highly as this survey, but if I were aged 20 - 30, maybe I would.

Confucius never take advise from a Canuck otherwise maybe end up on Eskimo Beach. 😂

For Air Canada to choose Phuket over so many other holiday destinations is a bit odd to me. It doesn't fly there (not direct anyway).

Also "Wellness" - is becoming a cliche with multiple meanings. It's used as an adjective - like Wellness Travel, Wellness Center, Wellness Clinics. A fairly new word which encompasses health (eating well), mental health wellness, wellness attitudes for developing relationships, etc.

Anyone that was lucky enough to be there when the Sandbox Scheme was operating will vouch for that.

One morning walk on Karon beach (usually populated by a million Russians) I was completely alone and most west coast beaches except maybe Patong were the same.Beautiful Island.

Maybe right if you lock yourself in an expensive resort, but as soon as you go out, then the "Wellness" will be replaced by toxicity from multiple directions.

Well Canadians are not the best when it comes to intelligence. Indeed they can’t even make their minds up on which language to speak.

Yes, I was in Phuket Sandbox twice. It was a good experience even though most places/shops were shuttered. Also, aside from Sandbox, during the pandemic in general when the borders were closed, Phuket and Hua Hin were great places to go for enjoyment without all the unwashed masses.
