‘Pong’ details to police forest burial site of Russians

Police have begun searching a forest area in Chonburi's Bang Lamung district after "Pong" admitted taking the bodies of the two there and burying them to conceal the evidence.

Thanat, known as Pong, and Thongchai, known as Thong, were arrested in Wang Sombun district, Sa Kaeo, on 31 July 2026. Both were wanted under Pattaya Provincial Court warrants on charges of jointly committing night-time theft using a vehicle, or receiving stolen goods.

Pong was taken for detailed questioning after the arrest. Investigators said he confessed to being the person who brought the bodies to woodland at Moo 10, Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, and buried them.

Reports said Pong had been released from prison only a month before his arrest.

Examination under way in Huai Yai woodland

Following Pong's statement, police, Bang Lamung district officials and rescue volunteers went to the location he identified in the Chak Ngaeo forest area.

Relevant agencies have been called in to conduct a detailed search and forensic examination. All remains recovered will be sent for evidence testing and a post-mortem examination under legal procedures.

Investigators have also received information from Pong, suggesting three additional bodies, may have been buried in the same area, although that information has not yet been verified.

Claims of five murders

According to statements made to investigators after his detention, Pong claimed he was responsible for five murders.

Police said he alleged that the first three victims were a father, mother and child from the same family. He reportedly claimed they were killed during a robbery and buried together in an apparent effort to also hide that crime.
