Teen’s Body in Suitcase as Aussie Carried On, Police Say

Australian expat Simon Peter Carman has told Thai police how he spent the 17 hours after the death of 17-year-old Tunchanok Donhomla before disposing of her body and attempting to board a flight to Australia. Investigators allege the 45-year-old left the teenager’s body inside a suitcase in the bathroom of his Pattaya apartment, carried on with his daily routine, and later dumped the suitcase in long grass near railway tracks before travelling to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested.

Police reported that the case began after Ms Donhomla, 17, met Carman in Pattaya. According to investigators, the fatal encounter centred on a dispute over 500 baht. Daily Mail reporting says Carman told police he spent the remainder of the night sleeping in the apartment, only metres from the suitcase containing the teenager’s body, which he said he had “put away”.

According to his account, Carman woke several hours later, stripped his bedding, gathered his laundry and left the apartment with washing for a nearby launderette. He then spoke with neighbours and his landlady before crossing the road for lunch. A laundrette owner told the Daily Mail that nothing about Carman’s behaviour appeared unusual, adding that he mentioned meeting a friend for lunch.

Carman later told investigators the friend cancelled their lunch meeting after being delayed outside Pattaya. He said the change of plans prompted him to return to Australia, as the friend had belongings stored in his apartment that would no longer be collected immediately. Police say Carman spent the afternoon running errands before returning to the apartment, where Ms Donhomla’s body remained in the bathroom.

Investigators allege Carman then booked a flight to Australia before deciding how to dispose of the body. CCTV footage allegedly shows him dragging the suitcase from his apartment at about 9.25pm, securing it to the back of his red scooter and riding towards nearby railway tracks, where police reported he abandoned it in long grass before returning home.

image.png

As Carman prepared to leave Thailand, Ms Donhomla’s disappearance had already prompted concern among her friends. A group visited his apartment and Carman let them inside, where they questioned him about her whereabouts while taking photographs of him on their mobile phones.

In the images, Carman appears calm as the group searched for answers about their missing friend before leaving. At about 5pm they reported her missing to local police, but by then, likely spooked by their questioning him, he was already on his way to the airport.

Police arrested Carman at Suvarnabhumi Airport shortly before he was due to board a Jetstar flight to Perth. According to a source close to the investigation, Carman told officers he had only intended to return to Australia to replace a lost debit card and planned to come back to Thailand within a few days to hand himself in and “take accountability”. Police continue their investigation into the alleged murder.

Of course he appeared calm when her friends showed up. He is a true psychopath and they have no feelings for others whatsoever.

Did I miss (happens more and more) anyone other than Carman the killer being only source of story he killed her over a difference of 500 baht? Not like she could dispute it....

has been reported that they knew where she had been because they asked her to send her location while she was there.

That would give the building location.

Not his room, and the friends knew and went directly to his room

It's not unreasonable to assume that a response to "send us your location" would include the room number as the location was a condo building and without the specific room number they would not have her location.

And if you earn your living from that teen? What then? Everyone in the country knows the game. Surely you're not that much of a rube.

To think you know and to know are 2 different things.

Remember there is no Thai prostitution in Pattaya. The police have said so and they never seem to find anyone. When was the last time you read about Thai hookers getting arrested in sweeps.

As to the mo ey her parents get remember all Thai girls are angels an parents will believe what they want to believe.

My point is if she was hooking and we really are not 100% sure. Yeah I know

The point is that she could keep the money or help her family give her credit for wanting to help.

No matter what the guy should be put in a cell with the Thai prisoners and the guards go for tea.

Normal people who met him realised immediately he was best avoided, maybe you wouldn't pick up on it

I doubt I would, since I don’t know him and there is no mention of that in the articles.

Probably murderer is the descriptive most likely to stick. Seems most likely what the charge will be. Investigators aren’t quoted as saying that they are looking into sex with a minor charge. Although it may come of course.

Perhaps not murderers, but accomplices.

He / they may have aided and abetted in the disposal of the body. Eg. given him instructions on what to do after the murder.

This is why I posted in another thread that they should check his phone records around the time of the murder.

Do they tape phone calls now?

If they don’t, how can they prove what the calls were about, if indeed there were any over and above the one that has been admitted.

I’m not bothered if you think they should expand the investigation, but police resources are infinite To be worthwhile, I think there would need to be more evidence than a cancelled lunch to launch a full scale investigation, into what appears to be a very peripheral figure in respect of this particular crime.

Rocky, are you a Mormon?!? If you have EVER visited a bar in Thailand, there is an even chance you took out someone under 18.

Have you never seen any teens that look 20 and act it? Sheesh!

What we know is the guy was a barfly and monger. Paedo doesn't count.

Dreadful situation but parents have to take some responsibility, a 17 year old girl out on the pattaya streets late at night working as a prostitute and been working there for a while according to the media so likely 16 yrs old, where was the adult supervision and a duty of care. They allowed a child to make these decisions and put herself in unknown danger, now they are chasing a payout

With all your blather about "responsibility", I assume you post similar rants on threads that mention a GoFundMe.

Get a grip. It's Thailand.

Simply pointing out that police would investigate if anyone assisted in the disposal of the body. For example, someone went to his place and helped him put the body in the suitcase.

Also, he may have made admissions to a friend, in person, or over the phone. That person now become a witness.

He may have borrowed the motorbike. That person now becomes a witness.

Even the condo manager who handed over the CCTV footage. A statement is required from the and they become a witness.

The list goes on, including the doctor who performed the autopsy.

A murder investigation goes far beyond the murder itself.

All of that is very true. But for some reason you singled out the friend as an avenue of investigation and left all the rest out.

That's because "the friend" MAY have committed a criminal offense, where as the others would not have.

Carried on with his daily routine !? !? As if nothing happened, absolute monster. I really dislike this guy on so many levels. Compensate the family and give him a life time senetece in The Bangkok Hilton, a sentence worse than death. No privileges or Aussie government support.

It takes a special type of psycho to be able to sleep while there is a body in the bathroom.

The fact that she is 17 would add to the fact that she was not a bar girl as they gave to be 18 I believe.

He picked her up on Beach Road, not in a bar. I do have to wonder why she would have gone with an old bloke back to his room. What 17yo girl does that unless they are after something. Anyway, no matter what her motive there is absolutely no reason she should have been harmed let alone killed. All over 500 baht in fact. What a very, very stupid man.

Two of the charges have to do with him taking a minor from "her guardians" for immoral purposes. I can't remember the exact wording. It is in one of the earlier articles. Once, if ever, he gets out of Thai prison he will be arrested in Australia and tried again for soliciting a minor.

Australian suspect in Thailand teen murder case went about 'normal life', police allege

Australian Simon Peter Carman "lived his normal life", going out, washing his clothes and talking to neighbours after allegedly murdering a teenage girl and stuffing her body inside a suitcase in Thailand, police say.

Going out from the condo room, getting his clothes washed, chatting with surrounding people, no clue that he had done something bad."

You didn't read the article, it seems. The article referenced the accused's friends and the prostitute's friends. Why should his friends be investigated...investigated for what? Why are you not calling for her friends to be investigated also?

I'm sure the CID will speak to all of them.

You missed the point of my post.

Another member is under the belief that once a confession is obtained from the suspect, the murder investigation ends there, it does not, and I gave one example of why it doesn't just end after a confession, being, were there any accomplices, either before, or after the crime.

Here's another example, totally unrelated to this case. Say you pay me to kill someone. I kill the person but get caught and confess to the killing. The other member is of the belief the murder investigation ends there, it doesn't. Police will further investigate to find out who ordered the assassination. Money trail, phone records, meetings, instructions etc.

Here is another example, and relevant to this case. Serial killers. If you catch someone for one murder, but the modus operandi (MO) is the same as other killings, you would further investigate to see if the person is responsible for the other murders, as they are doing with the other two bodies found in suitcases, in Pattaya, and this guy.

Thai police currently have no evidence linking Australian man Simon Peter Carman to two previous unsolved suitcase murders in the Pattaya region. While authorities investigated a possible connection due to the similar nature of the cases, Carman has not been formally linked to those previous incidents.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jun/30/thai-teen-girl-murder-australian-man-charged-police-investigate-other-unsolved-cases-ntwnfb

And I won't comment on his possibly invisible accomplice who has never shown up on building CCTV.

You post proves my point to the other member. A murder investigation just does not stop after a confession is made. That also includes looking for any possible accomplices. Thanks.

If he does own a farm, and has it sold, and offers some "compensation" to the family, and uses some or all of the rest for food, meds, and protection inside, he could last for years.
