US Military Aircraft Make Frequent Landings at Krabi Airport

Residents in Krabi have reported frequent landings and take-offs of United States military aircraft at Krabi Airport, with dozens of flights observed again on 7 April 2026. The aircraft, including C-130, MV-22 Osprey, and H-60 Seahawk, have been seen operating both day and night at low altitude, generating significant noise and drawing widespread public attention.

Videos of the aircraft have circulated widely on social media, showing planes arriving at a section of the airport separate from the main passenger terminal. Most passengers were described as dressed similarly to military personnel, further fuelling public curiosity. Locals said such activity had not been seen before in the province, prompting many to record and share footage.

The unusual presence has led to speculation among residents about the purpose of the flights. Some have questioned whether the United States is surveying potential military base locations along Thailand’s Andaman coast, while others suggested the flights may be transporting troops for rest periods following involvement in Middle East conflicts. The activity has also raised questions about why the aircraft are using a civilian airport rather than a naval base or air force facility.

The issue is considered sensitive given ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, and Thailand’s stated position of neutrality. Residents have questioned who authorised the operations and why they are taking place at Krabi Airport.

Officials have so far provided no clear explanation. Enquiries made to Krabi International Airport yielded no details about the origin or destination of the aircraft, with staff stating they could not release information due to concerns about causing public alarm. Contact with the Royal Thai Air Force spokesperson also produced no further clarification, with officials saying they were not yet aware of the situation.

Khaosod reported that the lack of official information has contributed to ongoing public debate and uncertainty. Authorities have not confirmed whether the flights are part of a coordinated military operation, joint exercise, or logistical transit. Clarification from government or military sources may help address concerns and explain the purpose of the aircraft movements.

Several other countries in Europe don't want to be involved in this conflict, and have refused that the US is using airports or airspace. Thailand could do the same, but maybe like to take the risk of being seen as an allied of the US??

Thai Air Force Explains US Aircraft Landings at Krabi Airport

The Royal Thai Air Force has clarified that recent United States military aircraft landings at Krabi International Airport were part of routine operations, following public concern over frequent flights. The statement aims to address speculation and reassure residents after videos of the aircraft circulated widely online.

Air Vice Marshal Jakkrit Thammawichai, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force, said on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, that the aircraft were conducting standard missions involving troop rotation and medical evacuation, MEDEVAC. These activities are part of ongoing security cooperation between Thailand and the United States and are not unusual.

The clarification follows reports from Krabi residents who observed multiple aircraft, including C-130, MV-22 Osprey, and H-60 Seahawk, operating at the airport both day and night. The flights, often at low altitude, generated noise and prompted speculation about possible military intentions, including concerns over a potential US base or links to Middle East conflicts.

According to the Air Force, all operations were carried out in full compliance with established procedures and regulations. The United States had formally requested diplomatic clearance through appropriate channels and the flights were approved by relevant Thai authorities before taking place.

Officials also confirmed that coordination had been conducted with local agencies in Krabi, including airport authorities and security units, to ensure smooth operations. The Air Force stated that the activities did not affect public safety or disrupt normal airport services.

The spokesperson stressed that the landings were routine and conducted under existing cooperation frameworks, with no special military significance. He added that the operations are unrelated to any regional conflicts and do not indicate Thai involvement in international disputes.

Thaitabloid reported that authorities have urged the public to remain assured that all procedures are closely supervised by Thai agencies, with priority given to national sovereignty, security and public interest. The clarification is expected to ease concerns following the lack of initial information provided to the public.

I agree, any other nation's military transiting Thailand is cause for public alarm. Thailand is aleady far too closely aligned with the US military.

Whatever is happening must be made transparent for Thais to decide if they want it or not.

If Tha govt gives up its neutrality on US Middle East misadventures, it paints a huge & undeserved target on Thais.

EXPLAIN NOW! Plane-by-plane, mission-by-mission.

The reports coming out of Krabi raise legitimate questions about how “neutrality” is being interpreted in practice.

When foreign military aircraft are repeatedly using a civilian airport with no clear explanation from Thai authorities, it naturally creates anxiety, not just for locals but also for the millions of foreign visitors who rely on Thailand being seen as a non‑threatening, non‑aligned country.

In the current climate, even the perception that Thailand is quietly facilitating U.S. military movements could put the country in an uncomfortable spotlight if Iran or any other actor views this as a hostile or supportive act.

Transparency from the government is essential here. People simply want to know what’s happening and whether these activities could expose Thailand to unnecessary risk. The Air Force’s clarification helps settle some of the speculation, but it doesn’t completely remove the underlying issue: Thailand’s stated neutrality only works if the country is seen as neutral by all parties.

Even if these U.S. flights are described as routine troop rotations and MEDEVAC operations, the lack of initial transparency created unnecessary confusion and left room for assumptions, especially at a time when tensions involving the U.S. and Iran are already high.

What people in Krabi were reacting to wasn’t just the aircraft themselves, but the silence from officials. When foreign military movements happen at a civilian airport, residents and visitors naturally want clear, timely explanations.

Thailand’s reputation as a safe, non‑aligned destination is one of its biggest assets, and anything that could be misinterpreted by outside actors deserves careful handling.

Now that authorities have provided details, hopefully they’ll prioritise proactive communication going forward. Clear information from the start would go a long way toward preventing public concern and ensuring Thailand isn’t inadvertently drawn into someone else’s conflict narrative.

IF these were part of routine operations, Krabians would be used to it,

and not reported it.

You mistake technical firepower with fighting ability. Your technical firepower is second to none. Your fighting ability is quite poor.

The one where you used 155 planes (and lost a few) to rescue one man? Yeah, great fighting ability.

The SAS would have been in and out before anyone even knew. Like I said, amazing technical firepower, not much else. It's like you have the most expensive hammers but that is all that is in your toolkit.

Oh my God, do you want to be more childish? I criticise your fighting ability and that makes me an Iran lover and a Jew hater? Where the hell do you come up with this stuff, it's pathetic. Grow up.

Thats all that we need, even if your knob headed lot is any good your government is too cowardly to use them. A dull knife in the sheath is better than the one locked in the safe at home

The SAS and SBS are almost continuously deployed somewhere or other but we don't shout about it, and most of the time we don't even know about it. They have been active in more than 20 countries over the last 15 years or so. Small, disciplined, highly trained covert units going about their business without publicity, without fanfare, and without massive hammers and 155 planes. Just getting their missions done without anyone knowing.

Cowardly is not a word you would ever say to their faces, not that they ever reveal themselves.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, but you just believe the biggest and loudest guns are best. Typical MAGA. Quite sad really.

From a severe beating in the deserts of Isfahan to much needed R&R on the beaches of Krabi, is what it looks like. Two weeks before the next hare-brained scheme to get them killed.
