It is more a matter of parental or student choice. IMHO if the Thai government of whatever colour were to create a professional well paid military (pay the generals pensions until they die off) then the political scene may be completely different, and Thailand could have a military that they could be truly proud of. So why is it called compulsory defence training and not parental or student choice training?

Try looking it up and do some research. It is NOT compulsory. I really have no interest in your posts until YOU come up with something that YOU have researched. Do you really believe that EVERY student in M4, 5 and 6 does this.? Do you even have children at school in Thailand? For someone who only joined the forum on Friday 1st September you certainly have no idea how to use the search function of Thai visa, nor it seems have you done ANY research on the topic that you are talking about. And always take the "headline" as suspect, more than often it is structured solely as click-bait. Edited September 3, 2017 by Artisi

I think that's a good thing. They have fewer posters, recently-joined or longer-standing, whose main aim appears to be to drag threads off-topic, or flame people who don't share their political-views. This has been especially noticeable on TV over the past several weeks, in the run-up to the court-verdict ! I know there were times, especially a decade or so ago, when I sometimes fell into that trap myself. I regret that. Nowadays I try to avoid those people, I'm here mainly to exchange views & information, not just slag people off. And there's a lot of humour to be found, in the antics of politicians & poo-yais, for outsiders like ourselves. A lot of good help is passed-on to new arrivals via ThaiVisa. I suspect that most of us have similar aims ... most of us look forward to the resumption of more-normal politics, most of us are against corruption, most of us would like the political-parties to try to do more for the people & less for themselves. Most of us can get along with one another, most of us would be happy enough to share a beer & a conversation, and that's the side of ThaiVisa I hope will continue to endure. Oh, and just to keep my post on-topic, most of us would decry any attempt by the government to pressure Yingluck through her son, or indeed her other relatives. She made her decision or, in the Thai way, a deal was done behind-the-scenes. Sooner or later she'll emerge, wherever she is, meanwhile normal life goes on. Eric Loh
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_Defence_Student Correcting information is not about slagging anyone. No one is superior in terms of information. Most of not all are not privy to many information and can only opine. On the subject of military training for students of younger age group, it seem that there are specific laws with some caveats. You can make your opinion on the link provided. So take your pick in the trifecta, o/seas, here, dead. Could also be that she's very privately checking schools etc., in another country (Dubai?) and when she's picked a school her son will join her. What about hubbie, he has always kept a low profile but seen any mention of him quite a while.
