Security guard loses legs in train accident

Featured Replies

A security guard in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district has lost his legs after being run over by a train on its way to Sihanoukville in the early hours of yesterday morning. The victim was identified as Keo Piseth, 33, who was said to have fallen asleep on the railway in Prateah Lang commune after a night of drinking.

Commune chief Nhoung Thin said Mr Piseth was known to sit on the tracks frequently. “The train ran over him at 2am. We believe he was drunk. If he was not drunk, he would not have slept on the tracks like that, because his house is nearby,” Mr Thin said.

“He often sits on the tracks using his walkie-talkie.” Mr Thin added that the victim, who was employed by the commune office to patrol the local area, also suffered head injuries in the accident, and was lucky to be alive.
