Xiaomi Store now officially in Thailand

Xiaomi has now made it's phones officially available in Thailand, although not all models are currently available...

 

The Xiaomi Store can be found on Lazada Thailand.

 

The new Xiaomi MiA1 Android One will be sold in Thailand starting next week, probably selling for about 7500 baht.

 

I don't think I will be buying one though as I have the Redmi Note 4X, which has the same Snapdragon 625 processor. I also have the Imobile Android One which is a couple of years old now. I'm interested to see if it receives the Oreo Android 8, as it is currently running Android 7.1.1 so it should be able to handle 8.

Well the good thing is that you get a 1 yr warranty and they look to have the 4gb RAM version on sale.

would like to see the MI Max 2 on there will snatch one up.

 

Looking forward to the Xiaomi MIA1 being released although as stated in previous post battery is a bit skinny i like at least a 4000 mah.

How good are Xiaomi phones? Equivalent of say LG? I tried a elephone which was highly rated but didn't have the number of developers working on it as the big makes, so bugs and minimal support. I also tried a no name tv box which was turd, so I'm sticking to big names now.

Well as a direct comparison I had a LG G2 and G3 and I have had Redmi Note3 & 4 and a MI Max and currently have a Redmi Pro is much better, jeez i was lucky to get 3 hrs SOT on either LG where im easily getting 5-6 hours. Camera is ok but not so good in low light but hey cannot expect everything for a sub 7k phone.

If you're sticking to big names, you won't go wrong with Xiaomi
Might not be well known outside Asia, but they are huge here and in the top few sellers, competing with the big names

 

Totally happy with my Xiaomi phone, can't fault it

It appears the Lazada's "Xiaomi Official Store" is really just an authorized reseller/'distributor' (FansLink) who have opened affiliate stores with that name on Lazada, 11th St, Shopee,  Priceza, Facebook, Line, etc.

I would be a bit careful with pronouncements like this. Yes, some models sold through some channels may have some sort of local warranty service/repair. Obviously, you should expect to pay more for those versions, and you should ask about this. Many of the hot models are grey-market imports and volume shops like NASA clearly say "no warranty".

 

During the launch last week of the A1, a slide did say it would be launched here. Localizing a product can involve some expense, time, cost, staff, training, spares, parts, etc.

I get a Xiaomi news feed from Google..

 

The article included pic of Xiaomi executive and Thai executive. My obvious conclusion is that the Xiaomi Official Store in Thailand services and warranties every model they sell.

 

It's just a cheaper way to get a foothold here. I had to order my Redmi Note 4X thru AliExpress. Waited about 15 days and warranty goes back to China, so a bit of a gamble. Not going to have that problem as long as you buy the models they are selling here.

Yup, it seems to be just an online shop. Apparently there is still no authorized distributor of Xiaomi here. 

 

I wonder what is a good place to look at Xiaomi Mi Mix.. probably MBK 4th floor, so I'm going to try next week, wouldn't buy it online without playing with it for few minutes. But it looks amazing.

The news articles I've found state that,

"Xiaomi has appointed its distributor, VST ECS Thailand Co Ltd (formerly known as Value Systems Co Ltd), to handle after-sale services. VST will distribute, market and provide support for Xiaomi's products.

Somsak Pejthaveeporndej, executive chairman of VST ECS Thailand, said its subsidiary, VServePlus, will have 10 branches across the nation providing such services.  VCS currently has 4,500 dealer shops in the country."

 

So "Fanslink" labeling themselves as "Xiaomi Official Store" on several outlets is probably just creative marketing by hopefully one of VST's 4.500 authorized dealers.

The point is that fans and potential purchasers of Xiaomi's phones no longer have to order from China..

 

"Authorized re-seller" means manufacturer approved Service and Warranty in Thailand.

 

While Xiaomi has a lot of money from their IPO and a recent $1 Billion dollar loan, Global expansion is an expensive undertaking...

It's honestly not "hair-splitting", but rather Channel Distribution 101, basic stuff.

See the list of countries where the MiA1 is due to be released.

 

They are not advertising for the benefit of grey-market importers..

 

Since Xiaomi is still in the process of rolling out globally (previously only officially available in China and India) they have obviously partnered with local distributors and designated them as "Authorized Re-sellers". With service and full warranties.

We're not trying to argue with you, but trying to clarify.

 

My last post was in response to whitemouse's comment, "Apparently there is still no authorized distributor of Xiaomi here".  So I went to look for the news articles you mentioned so see who the actual Thailand partner was.

 

You mentioned in a later post that Thai shops previously selling Xiaomi were selling grey-market phones ... No warranty or warranty provided by re-seller. "That's no longer the case."

 

I don't believe that grey-market distribution channel will disappear for those existing shops overnight. People will still need to verify the guarantee/warranty of the device being sold.  Much easier to do if they're buying at a shop that has a genuine channel relationship with the Xiaomi appointed distributor.

 

But, yes, we can all acknowledge that Xiaomi now has an authorized distributor in Thailand that will also service warranties.

 

 

CSB:  One of my previous bosses used to work for Sony, 'smuggling' a lot of product into countries that had set limits on how much could be imported for resale. So the product was real, the distribution and warranty channel wasn't.

Mi Mix so nice on a photo, design is ahead of anything by Sony, Apple. One thing about bezel-less phones, the dispaly looks gorgeous, but handling can be hassle, I use Sony C5 as e reader, its sides have no bezel, so every time I move phone by sides, the display goes berserk after finger tips touch the lcd. It's worse when trying to walk with display on, for example Youtube is running, and you try to walk, inevitably finger tips will touch the lcd, and I have to stop and make 5 clicks to get back to my video. Youtube can be watched with screen off even with Chrome now, still, bezel less phones look really sexy, but they can be painful

Xiaomi now has ~ seven (7) a few of their own branded shops...MBK, The Mall Bangkapi, Seacon, Imperial World, Panthip, Mega Bang Na, Secon Bankhae.

 

And shelves in quite a few larger mobile shops.

 

And they have an official storefront on Lazada.

 

The Mi A1 was 7,990 (64 GB) when first launched here, and that model seems like it's ~ 6,000 now, (4,790 for the 32 GB version.)

 

Not sure when the Mi A2 might be available? Or local pricing.
