French fishermen have escalated protests over soaring fuel costs by blockading ports and an oil depot along the Mediterranean coast. 

At Frontignan, up to 200 fishermen gathered outside an oil depot from the early hours of yesterday, blocking tanker lorries from entering or leaving. 

Protestors were pictured burning tyres and pallets, while around 30 fishing boats obstructed the port at nearby Sète, and further east, fishing vessels blocked the entrance to Nice’s Port Lympia. 

The disruption forced a ferry bound for Corsica to divert to the Italian port of Savona, while yachts were left waiting to leave.

The protests have continued into their third day despite President Emmanuel Macron ordering the government to make a “total mobilisation” to tackle the impact of soaring fuel prices, with fishermen warning similar action could spread to Marseille and Toulon.

Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has extended emergency assistance for fuel until the end of the year, and increased support for fishermen from 25 to 35 cents per litre.

Think blocking ports & depot is a good idea ... not selling diesel to you even better 😁

every one, regardless of their nationality, is complaining about the diesel price, Uk, USA, EU any farmer, fisherman, any related agricultural job, shipping companies, etc... is suffering from the stupidity/selfishness of one (1) man...

their own government wouldnt come to open the strait when they needed lol. Like they wont defend their own borders

18 million bbls a day are flowing. so could there be other causes. No refineries built in Europe since 1977? Green policies? War in Europe taking eussian and ukrainian refineries off line.
