A monk making his alms rounds in Rayong’s Khao Chamao district was attacked by a wild elephant early Friday.

Police said Phra Phanuwat Thanussaro, 24, of Wat Madua Tham suffered broken ribs when the elephant struck him with its trunk.

He was taken to Khao Chamao Hospital.

The attack occurred on a road near the village of Moo 2 in Tambon Khao Noi.

The monk said the elephant came out of woods and attacked him so suddenly that he had no time to flee, and then just as suddenly returned to the forest.

Even the elephants have had enough of money grabbing monks.

Wow, what a mean thing to say under the circumstances and totally against Thai culture.

Of course, 'Luis-Vuitton-Jet-Setting-Monk' was shocking but this guy collecting food for the Wat? Hardly.

But yeah, any misguided throwaway remark for a another reputation vote on TV. Think about what you put out into the world.

A violation of the monk vows, yes. However, how we react to that is still our choice and responsibility (and result).

I agree.  I don't have special regard for monks.  People can choose to believe in whatever they want.

To call this guy a parasite, money grabbing, etc. is a little far.  From the article, he was just doing what he was supposed to.
