SEPO member explains need for new act on state enterprises

BANGKOK, 11th September 2017 (NNT) – A State Enterprise Policy (SEPO) Office member has explained the need to reform the nation’s state enterprises.

SEPO member Prasarn Trairatvorakul, speaking on an episode of “Thailand Moves Forward” about the new State Enterprise Management and Development Act, stated that state enterprises are an important driver of the country’s economy. They also provide essential services to the public, which means that they be reformed to stay in step with current economic and social circumstances.

He went on to say that the draft act is comprised of six main principles, which include a strategic direction for state enterprise development, ways to make state enterprises better conduits of government policy, enhancement of state enterprise employee skills and knowledge and transparency.

He gave an assurance that the new act would better integrate the work of state enterprises with other relevant units and provide a systematic way to ensure transparency. Overall, the upgrade will foster better public services and economic benefit in support of the government’s three aspirations of stability, prosperity and sustainability.
