The newly-appointed deputy chief of the Tourist Police Bureau (TPB), Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpan, has led a crackdown on seven tour companies that allegedly used unlicensed tour guides and red licence plate vehicles on their commercial services.

TPB officers and others from related agencies conducted the searches on Tuesday at the seven companies which were located near Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district.

The operation followed public complaints accusing the companies of using the red licence plate vehicles to transport tourists, which is against the law, selling services/products that failed to meet the advertised conditions and using unlicensed tour guides.

Surachet said a number of tour guides were taken into custody for questioning and red licence plate vehicles and goods were confiscated.

The raid followed a separate incident in which officers on Monday night intercepted 11 vehicles and accused one of the seven tour companies of using them for other than their permitted purpose.

If they came to Chiang Mai they'd find far more unlicensed tour guides than licensed ones.

That's him then.... headline made.... now its time to kick back and enjoy himself.
