Fresno County releases video clip of recovery operation in the Kings River

Fresno County Sheriff Office has released video clip of the Sept 1 operation to retrieve bodies of two Thai students died in a road accident at the King River.

 

The 5-minute video shows different stages of the recovery operation conducted by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue (SAR) team in the Kings River on September 1, 2017,” the office stated on its Facebook page.

 

“It took a total of eight hours for SAR and the California Highway Patrol’s Air Support Unit to successfully move the car and remove two bodies from it. The victims were later identified to be Pakapol Bhakapon Chairatnathrongporn, 28, of Thailand and Thiwadee Saengsuriyarit, 24, of Thailand.”

Silly me, i was waiting for a huge towtruck....now i wonder how they got it on back on the road.

The Thai don't understand those silly farang. Their allcapable team would have done this within half an hour. No heli needed.

Great job by the authorities, volunteers and all the people involved. May the two lads rest in peace...

On a side note, I wonder if Thai authorities would have ever performed such a big scale operation on a foreign family request. Not Thai bashing, just out of sincere curiosity.

What a horribly grim scene.

 

BTW, the victims were not "two lads". One was a girl.

The fact is that if Thailand sent their own rescue teams (when they blamed the Americans for undue delays), the Yanks would have to rescue recover the rescuers!

It's a beautiful part of the world, just south of Yosemite.  I've hiked in the area many times.

 

Instead of being focused on the recovery effort, the Thai people should seek answers about the cause of the accident.  In California, there will be toxicology tests, vehicular tests and roadway inspections.  Even without any lawsuits, there will be accident reconstructionists determining whether drugs, alcohol, automobile mechanical failures and highway design and maintenance issues (note the lack of guardrails), or just simple driver error contributed to the accident.  Thailand can learn a lot of lessons which could make their roadways safer - but they won't, because they are focused on the spirituality of the deceased students, may they rest in peace.

If you can watch at 3;50 you will see a helicopter. This would be used to retrieve the remains of the deceased passengers.

A larger helicopter may be used to lift the crushed car out of the canyon. The large recovery truck is neither in the video or likely to be used to drag the car up the side of the canyon as it would destroy much of the vehicle's remains which will be closely examined..

Yes may be or maybe not....that's what i would like to see.....that small chopper can't do it i bet.

 

I would like to see the carcass going uphill...or being lifted..there's no towtruck in the video so maybe they do it another day...or just leave it there to rot away...?

Well done to the authorities in the area who retrieved the bodies with no harm or injuries to themselves or anyone else. A well-planned out effort executed by professionals. 

 

Life is precious and should be treated as such.

Nice to see all these 'racists' hard at work recovering the bodies. I bet we don't get a retraction from the family over their comments- I notice they did thank the consulate though.

 

For the arm chair experts above please note it is not common to retrieve the vehicles as well, it will likely just stay down there and slowly be broken up by the river. no point putting further lives at risj to reover a bunch of junk.

Well just connect a steel cable to the wreck and pull.....stay away from it and nobody will get hurt, worst case the cable breaks and the wreck drops again...in that case try it again.

 

I would think the insurance pays so why not give it a try? Now the oil and plastic will end up in the river which looks great and clean.

From the car of course, or was it not insured? In that case the Thai should have travelinsurance so they can pay...or am i thinking to much European now?? In Europe the car would have to be lifted and recycled....we wouldn't let it rot in a nice river....
