BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a former engineer, who is also an accused in the Phramongkutklao Hospital bomb attack case, to four years in jail for assembling and possessing explosives and bomb-making materials without permission.

Wattana Pummares, 61, was also ordered to pay Bt950 as fine.

The penalties were meted out with leniency, as Wattana confessed to his crimes and waived his right to fight in court.

The court issued the guilty verdict and handed down the punishment only for four bombs and bomb-making materials found at Wattana’s house on June 15.

The court has not yet ruled on the case in which Wattana was arraigned for staging a bomb attack at the Phramongkutklao Hospital in May. The blast injured 21 people, some of them seriously, and caused damage estimate at more than Bt1.2 million.
