BANGKOK: -- The Appeals Court today (September 14) commuted by half the 14-years prison sentence handed down on former chairman of the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative (KCUC), Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, by the first court after he had paid off the embezzled money.

The court gave him seven years in prison with no suspension of jail term after Supachai pleaded for mercy with reason he has paid off over 27 million baht to the KCUC for the 22.1 million baht he siphoned off for personal use.

The ruling today by the Appeals Court was seen to reverse the prison term from 14 years to seven years, but retain the first court’s ruling that no suspension of jail term be permitted for him.

They got it wrong. They should have doubled his sentence instead of cutting it in half.

It probably won't happen for all the usual reasons. But this guy deserves a LONG stint in the monkey house.
