Silpakorn University is to investigate allegations that an initiation ritual over the weekend included inappropriate activities.

The allegations, which were widely circulated on the Internet, reported that male freshmen were told to strip naked, shower together and simulate sex acts.

“I have received a report on this. I have assigned the dean of the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Arts at Silpakorn University to verify facts and set up a probe panel,” the university’s president Wanchai Sutananta said.

He denied that there were forms of sexual harassment during the recent hazing ritual.

“Reports on inappropriate activities are not fully accurate,” Wanchai said.

In the wake of the reports, Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin said that wrongdoers must be punished.

“I have always emphasised that initiation rituals should respect human rights. Give first-year students impressive experiences, not humiliation,” he said.

Hazing or initiation rituals are intrinsically "inappropriate" in this day and age, whether involving humiliation, pain, fear or eroticism or not.  Just my opinion.

True for developed countries, but in thailand they are part of society (hierarchy, feudalism, military leaders, etc).

People have no rights, they are just parts of the military/amart machine.

“Reports on inappropriate activities are not fully accurate,” Wanchai said.

This suggests that the University President already knows exactly what went on in the hazing ritual, so I wonder why he needed to appoint someone else to conduct the enquiry.
