September 19, 20178 yr Yom River floods downtown Sukhothai By The Nation JS100 radio photos Sukhothai’s downtown business area was inundated late Monday night when the Yom River overflowed, topping a sandbag embankment. Sukhothai Governor Khunpiti Kaewsalubsri said the water level in the river reached 7.49 metres, the highest this year, in the heart of Muang district, and flooding extended about a kilometre along the western bank. The district and municipal offices were sitting in 20 to 80 centimetres of water. Civilian volunteers and Border Patrol police stacked sandbags higher and water pumps were installed in a bid to drain off the floodwater.
