The Ministry of Labour will hold a public hearing on a proposal to review the rules and regulations on 39 jobs currently reserved for Thai nationals.

Waranont Pitiwan, director of the Department of Employment, said most Thais are now not interested in many of these jobs, so foreigners should be allowed to do. The list includes some construction workers, carpenters, waiters, petrol station attendants, fresh-market workers and cashiers.

He said the department will hold a meeting next week, and invite representatives from the construction, restaurant, tourism and other industries, as well as the Board of Trade, to air their views on the suggestion that foreigners be allowed to do these jobs legally.

oh dear might have to pay them more if they are legal

This is the thin end of the wedge once the important jobs of "hand rolling cigarettes and Thai doll making" are opened up to foreigners the country is doomed.

Lets hope they keep Paper Parasol making Thai only otherwise there could be another collapse of the Tiger Economies.

I totally agree ,such as Thai massage,Thai food, traffic cops, bar tenders, Gogo dodo, and of course the world oldest Pro;all must be reserved for Thai. ?

Hmm - carpentry is a bit of a hobby of mine....

No, "Best Beloved" would never allow it.

In Bang sue where the centre of carpentry and wood is for BKK it's still very hard to find high quality furniture. They don't use the proper tools, are uneducated and say maipenlai all the time.

Such a waste because they do use expensive hardwoods there.

The furniture sold there is still more expensive than in Europe (imported from Indonesia).

Professional carpentre toolbrands like Festool are not even sold in Thailand, i've seen a saw of it for sale once in 15 years.

I see, this guy is getting his ears ready for the hearing:

But he stressed applications for any driving occupation whilst stoned have risen 500%

If some of these professions are opened up to foreigners, it'll be easier, and more profitable, for businesses to legally employ staff from neighbouring countries. The Burmese and Cambodians are very diligent and reliable employees.

They definitely out perform most Thai staff (not too difficult to do).

How about Civil Servant, Government officer, Competent Official, Prime Minister, K***.

"The list includes some construction workers, carpenters, waiters, petrol station attendants, fresh-market workers and cashiers."

At the BP petrol station near us, all the attendants are young Burmese. All very fast, friendly and like to show they can speak very good English.

Many of the cheapie charlie restaurants around here, the noodle ones, also have mainly Burmese or Cambodian staff too.

Seems like bringing the rules in line with the reality.

You must have meant a Competent Prime Minister, or not ?

That would be covered under trash talking, trough feeding and piggeries.

A manager I met who works for a petrol chain says they can't get Thai to pump petrol.  So they are all from Cambodia.

Not. Many things have to be signed off by a "competent Official" of the department or ministry concerned.

"Ça n'exist pas ici", to quote my French friends!

Be lots of Thai smiles when they hear this Means lots of Thais dont have to do any work. They will not object to this guy bringing in these rules As i said wife has resturant hang sign up Waitress wanted nobody applies

And then in a few years many Thai frowns when the government blames foreigners for Thais being unemployed.  It's like a few year back (5?) when there was this report that 70% of Thailand was owned by foreigners. :saai: My wife immediately pointed out that it was not possible since non-Thais cannot own land. Oh, but it was through nominees they said - doesn't matter (if true) because at the end of the day the name on the chanote is a Thai citizen and nominee or not they can legally do what they want without the nominee's permission.
