Featured Replies

Current Situation.

1. Tourist visa from Chicago consulate with US passport

2. Bangkok bank account with 800K deposit for the last one month.

3. Stamped admitted until 31st Oct, 2017

4. Enter before stamped in visa is Nov 14, 2017

5. Currently living in Thailand (Pattaya) for almost one month.

6. US passport holder and age is 50+

Can some one please outline the steps now required for getting retirement visa for long-stay (one year)

You first will need to apply for a change of visa status to get a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry. You will need a letter from the bank confirming your account and the balance in it and copies of your bank book.

You will need at least 15 day remaining on your 60 day entry or the 30 day extension of it to apply for the change.

Then during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the visa you will apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement. The 800k baht will need to be in the bank for 60 days on the date you apply.

The written requirements state that the 800k baht only need to be in the bank on the date you apply for the change to get the visa but Pattaya/Jomtien immigration has insisted it be in the bank for 60 days on the date you apply according to reports.

If they want that it appears you have enough time to do it if you apply for a 30 day extension of your 60 day entry.

ubonjoe, thanks for a quick reply. let me summarize the process you outlined.

1. Get a 30-day extension of the current tourist visa so that I can stay up to Nov 30, 2017

2. My money was deposited in Bangkok Bank on Sept 2. Hence, I can only apply for change of status after Nov 2.

3. A few days after Nov 2, I apply for visa status change from tourist to non-immigrant visa (category o).  Do you know the immigration form no for this?

1/2. Check with immigration about doing the application now. Perhaps they are following the rules now and doing them without the money being in the bank for 60 days. If not then you could get the extension and apply on November 1st (60 days).

3. You will use a TM86 change of visa status form. Download: TM86.pdf
