When does it stop?

What age can I stop showing my 3 childrens birth certificates, copies of their ID cards and photos of them inside and outside of the house to immigration? And what the hell have my children got to do with a marriage certificate? Thanks.

You won't get far here with an attitude like that! Just learn some Thai patience.

Have you asked them why? What reason do you put on the TM7 form for the extension, Thai spouse, or, Thai family.

Even though both of mine are adults, they still live inside the compound. I use them as witnesses.

As long as they are registered in the main house book, I guess. When I got my first house book at my father in-law’s place, everyone in the household had to be present in the pic when I applied for my visa

You can stop, respectively you will not have to submit the mentioned documents with an application for extension of stay, when the immigration official dealing with your application for that year will not ask for them.

It would be Thai spouse.

I also don't understand why children details are required.

Fact is some immigration offices require that.

For what reason I have no idea.

Plenty of threads for extension based on MARRIAGE requiring children details. Ridiculous.

Agreed, but I wonder if it's because they included all family details in the first instance.

When the kids reach the age of majority (20 in Thailand), I would have thought. But, this being Thailand, who knows?

And I wonder whether, if it is in lieu of a house visit with interviews of neighbours or the village headman, it is because it is more convenient for the immigration office.

Aside from not knowing what immigration office the OP uses, we also don't know if he still gets the house visit.

At any rate, it could be worse for the OP, like the one or two cases I read about in this forum where an applicant for the marriage extension, living over 100 km from the immigration office, had to bring along two witnesses to the office.

I don't get house visits.

My eldest doesn't live with us. She's at Uni in Bangkok. So how can I show a photo of her included in the family photo outside of the house, or inside? Next year no child will be living with us. They will all be at Uni. Maybe I'll ask Immigration next Monday on my visit? I'll get back to yous.

There's easier ways to stay in Thailand. I don't understand why someone would submit themselves to so much tomfoolery.

If you are referring to use of agent that would be for extension retirement. The OP would be aware of that option.

Be good if you ask the IO and advise.

I have always included my lads in my marriage extensions for years (also never had a home visit or needed witnesses), but as they are now both in their 20s and at uni, it's not easy to get them home to do photos of the 4 of us any more, and I'm curious will I get an issue with the IO in this year's application if my sons are not in the photos for the first time.

If you mean that the OP should be seeking retirement - rather than marriage - extensions, there may well be good reasons for him not going down this road. Like he may not yet be 50, for instance. Or he simply doesn't have sufficient spare dosh as to be able to plonk an extra ฿400k into his bank account.

How would an Immigration office know if you had children, unless they asked, or you offered the information.

Because they are in the house book?

Not only that but the IO would see them during my annual reports, until they went to school fulltime.

I've only ever supplied a copy of the first page (the address) and the second page (wifes registration) of the housebook.

On that basis, many Thais can be registered in a single house book, even non family members, and certainly not living there, so would they request details of them all ?

I have no idea, only my first visa application I had to supply even the adoptive daughter living with father in law, and I changed address when we moved to the farm and now only me and my wife registered at that address.

I will change to marriage now, so I know we need to bring two witnesses along. We already had that confirmed, but that is just for the first transition in to the marriage visa, next time just copy of id and signatures.

QUERIES

1.How would an Immigration office know if you had children, unless they asked, or you offered the information?

2.why would you tell them for a marriage extension?

1.I don't think the IO would know if you had children unless they asked or you offered the information.

2.Can't answer for anyone else, but I specifically included my kids in every marriage extension since they were born, and they went with my wife and i to the imm office (we had no one to leave them with while we visited) until school years started.

They have been in every annual year's photos since birth.

We include their thai birth certificates and blue book pages as proof they're Thai.

I have always done this because I believe it helped show that I was in an authentic marriage with my wife, at our house, and we have children, and thereby it added some credence to my application.

Personally find that ridiculous.

It implies without children the marriage is less credible

Because you have to register them in the Blue Book which is required to be shown for a Marriage Extention.

The immigration is free to request proof of marriage, family life, and other documents.

Nothing to do with "hell" .

Right I think I have the answer.

The Logic Behind the Photos

The main purpose of the family photos is to prove to Thailand Immigration that you and your Thai spouse are running a genuine, active household together and are not engaging in a sham marriage.

  • The Core Requirement: The absolute mandatory requirement is always you and your Thai spouse together in and around the home.

  • The Children's Role: If you have minor children living with you, immigration officers expect to see them in the photos because they are a natural part of your daily household dynamic.

When You Can Stop Including Your Children

You can generally omit your children from the marriage extension photos under the following circumstances:

  • Age 20 and Above: Once a child reaches 20, they are legally adults. They are no longer considered dependent minor children under your patronage, and immigration will not expect them to be anchored to your marriage extension photos.

  • Living Elsewhere: If your children move out for university, work, or marriage, you do not need to fly them back just for a photo. You simply inform the officer that they no longer reside in the home.

  • Officer Discretion: Thai Immigration offices operate with high levels of local autonomy. If your children are at school during the time you take the photos, many offices will accept photos of just you and your wife, provided you explain the situation. [1, 2]

No it doesn't imply the opposite, that without children the marriage is less credible. That's a ridiculous take.

Actually we have other family members in my wife's blue book but we do not provide copies of their page even though the IO gets to see the blue book.

By including OUR kids in the photos for my marriage extension I was also implying that I was supporting children (so effectively Support Thai Wife & Support Children) which may have helped with my +20 Support Thai Wife extensions application
