Baby raptor? identification.

Featured Replies

I am hoping that the avid bird boffins can help ID a baby bird that has been deposited at my home, due to the severe storms we are having on Phuket please.

I have attached a picture of the little chap. Overall length is about 10 inches or 25 cm.

Thank you.

Looks like a juvenille Frogmouth.

Nightjar (UK name) - probably adult. As the name suggests, they are birds of the night.

Don't know which if the Asian species this might be.

Eat insects which they catch on the wing, so don't try force feeding with bits of your best steak. After a bit a rest to recover, if there are no injuries, it'll probably say "Thanks and I'll be on my way :) ".

Thank you ozzydom. Looks like you are correct there. This one does not want to fly and just sleeps. The info says they only fly at night. Thanks for the quick answer.

I am happy to add, that as night arrived, this little visitor took off into the night, after a full 13 hours of sleep. How marvelous is that, right here on Phuket?
