I can't figure it out. If I saw a man sporting a beard in north Norway, I'd understand that it helps to keep one's face warm (a la polar bear fur etc). But in Thailand? Why?

I tend to assume:

• If the man is bald, then they are self-conscious of this and trying an 'upsidedown' look....

• they are hiding a receding chin

• they are simply too lazy to shave (this is 95% the real reason!)

Of course, such assumptions can be wrong, but from meeting many men in Asia over the years (in a purely non-sexual manner!), I find that most fit into the above groups).

Up to them of course, but unless I was CEO of Arctic Command, I would never employ anyone who had a beard - females included.

I just started growing mine again, after about 20 yr hiatius. Simply tired of shaving, or worse, tired of shaving every few days, as having a heavy beard, so 3 days worth, and I look like a bum on the street 🙄

I keep it well trimmed now, at 2 or 3 mm. All grey, so adds about 10 yrs to my handsomeness, though very distinquished now

I'm at an age where I'm too lazy to shave. However, I never get past a week's worth of stubble. Don't like the feeling.

I look at vloggers on YouTube, especially those vlogging from Thailand or other south-east Asian countries. Many sport beards, especially unkempt beards that make them look like street tramps. Others sport dark glasses when there is no bright sunshine lol!

Nothing wrong with a bit of beard on the walnut. No muff too tough!

Same here.....CBA shaving every morning......just keep it short with a trim once a week.

Bit tough yours going grey.........mine went silver.

Hair on our heads, facial hair, genital hair is an error of evolution. Evolution decided we don't need any "fur" anymore a long time ago.

The remaining "fur" is absolutely unnecessary and therefore an error of evolution.

First 3 airlines I worked for, beards weren't allowed. Eight years of self employment, and I applied to airlines again, only to the two that allowed beards. Both hired me the same week 😂

One week for me, and my beard is half way grown in 🙄

I shave my upper and lower lip surrounds every 2-3 days. I trim the beard every 2-3 weeks.

Beards were an incredibly popular fad for a while and some men just don't understand how incredibly tired that whole phase is. if you're going for an Oregon Lumberjack look I guess that's a good thing to have on your face. Otherwise the vast majority of beards look pretty ridiculous, though there are some exceptions.

Yes beards were incredibly popular (a fad) for the last 2000 years, No God, no ruler, no saint without a beard. Look at the old paintings. Worse: From Isaac Newton to the inventors of the "industrialised age", all the "founding fathers" had hair in their face. Everybody of any importance had "hair in their face". Geniouses without "hair in their face" were ignored.

PS: If I would run for political office, I would grow a full beard (commanding unchallenged respect), reverting to Abraham Lincoln.

OR: If the Pattaya "ladies of the night" would find it attractive to stay with Farangs with "hair in their face" I would return to Pattaya . Never shaving, staying for the next 50 years.

I remember when I moved to New York a long time ago I had a beard, and I'd befriended this rather stunning woman and we were having lunch one day and she looked at me and said so do you plan on having any sex while you're here in New York?

I said yeah I'm young and single why not she said okay well the first thing you have to do is get that ridiculous thing off your face because you will never get laid while you're in New York with that thing. I've shaved the next day in the next few years went very well.

Try to keep face smooth as any hair is inevitably itchy, especially in this muggy heat. Never had a beard but once just to see what it would be like, although did have a mustache for many years. My girlfriend likes it smooth so I keep it that way anyway. To each their own.

Some choose a beard or facial hair to hide a weak chin, and some because it improves their appearance anyway. The five o' clock shadow seems to be popular with some women, the Jason Statham look, and some women hate it.

Many beards have come a long way in shape and style, I'm thinking more for the man than the women, but again, everyone's different. You'll attract certain women with facial hair and detract from others. If you shave clean, you'll know which ones like it even if they didn't when you had facial hair.

It doesn't matter how hot it gets as many in extreme climates have them, and for their own reasons.

Shave every day as part of my healthy routine. Would rather not but also would rather not run in the rain today but I will.

I have learned through the years that I am happier man if I'm clean and well kept. There are many exceptions but people that don't shave regularly as a whole, as I would expect, live a shorter unhealthier life than those that do. If you are too lazy to shave then many are also too lazy to be healthy. The correlation is obvious in the research.

The answer is simple, beards are in vogue at present. It is like going back 50 years and asking why everybody is wearing flares.
