Leaving for Nantucket Soon: Gonna Pack my sharp harpoon…

Featured Replies

Dear Folks

Speaking of Nantucket and Harpoons, have you ever been there?

There are plenty of old women, mostly whales, who might fund the rest of my life.

Neigh….!!!

I will not be going to Nantucket solely to conclude my rise in life by sticking it to some old bags.

I am thinking of going to Nantucket to just get away from the noise of Thailand, and enjoy, for a spell, a bit of peace and quiet, with the sound of the surf blowing in my ears.

Have you ever been to Nantucket?

I have.

The surf is rather dangerous, in fact.

You cannot just swim out during a storm, and expect to return.

From what I know about Nantucket, it’s a small island, full of fever.

There has been a remarkable murder there, as you know.

Still, due to the noise outside my house in Thailand, I am at wit's end.

If I cannot find some place quiet, in Thailand, after so many years, then…

Why not try Nantucket?

Being a clam tycoon on Nantucket sounds better to me than what is now happening to me.

I just want a QUIET PLACE.

I have no need of dental floss, these days, which is the least of my worries.

Is there….REALLY any quiet place in Thailand?

I think NOT…..

Best regards,

Gamma

Note: I will be willing to EXPAND upon my meaning, and the IMPORTANCE of QUIET, in case anyone might wish to ask.

I am sick of these motorbikes, and listening to riders fall off them….to kingdom come.

Nantucket is a better place, no matter how small.

Note2:  If I am, finally, unable to find a quiet place in Thailand, then….I am OUT OF HERE…for sure, even though I realize I will always regret the leaving of this superior place.

NANTUCKET.

Note3:  Sometimes, no matter what, the street noise of Thailand gets the better of one, unfortunately.

SUCH A WONDERFUL AND UNFORGETTABLE SONG/EXPERIENCE:

Yes.

I will be Going to Nantucket Soon.

No need to come visit me, though.

How far from Chiang Mai, center city, does one need to go, just to find a bit of Peace & Quiet?

THIS is the Question.

DOES ONE NEED TO GO....ALL THE WAY TO NANTUCKET....????

Are you sure?

When I was last there, housing was cheap.

Thank you.....

So much.....

TRULY

You know, or if you do not know....

At least....

I know.

I know that the road noise is driving me mad.

Logically speaking, living on a small island, might be better....

From a Traffic Perspective.

YES, Sir.,

I am going to leave Thailand.

WHY?

CACoPHONOUS Traffic Noise.....

aFTER about 50 years in Asia, I can no-longer tolerate the noise.

Give me just a rice field with a water buffalo, any day, and just one egret.

Those days are GONE.....

Or....

Really.

Is there any small plot of land, within about 15 kilometers of center-city Chiang Mai, ....

Which is tranquil and peaceful?

Probably there is no such place, at any price.

Is this correct?

So then, how far must one go in order to achieve peace, in Thailand?

Beyond the grave, perchance?

Yes, but I just really wonder....

How did we go from here:

To here:

And, were we ever evolutionarily equipped to live this way?

And, do YOU prefer Quiet....

Or, do YOU prefer the noise of Mumbai, without a spot of Gin?

Just asking.

Why are we quietly and continuously destroying habitable human habitats while vociferously protecting leviathans?

Any clue?

Sorry GrandpaGargantuan, I can’t really commiserate with you because I don’t seem to share the good fortune of having any of your daily struggles. I’m not stuck indoors and isolated, I’m not constantly battling self loathing over being overweight, I’m not worrying about ED or navigating the complicated world of involuntary celibacy, I live in a peaceful environment, and I don’t spend my days analyzing noise levels, bed sheets, treadmills, or whatever the latest crisis happens to be.

It seems like every day brings a new emergency for you. One day it is health, the next it is boredom, the next it is figuring out where to go or what problem needs solving. Now you are even contemplating humping the backs of some whales along the Atlantic. At this point it is hard to tell whether these are personal struggles or just a very unwitting creative writing exercise.

Meanwhile, I’m doing alright. Life is pever nerfect, but I’m getting it done.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with being a mess. Some people are actually very committed to it. They turn it into a full time hobby and document the process for everyone else.

That said, I think your current situation might require something beyond another thirty page forum dissertation. Perhaps some serious intervention. Maybe an industrial sized bottle of Viagra, a party sized jar of KY, and a one way bus ticket to Soi 6 Pattaya might finally resolve a few of these long standing conundrums. At the very least, it would give you some new material for your next whingeing topic.

I think a trip might do you some good, hopefully it will afford you some perspective on life. Many of us love our lives in Thailand, and like any place you have to take the good with the bad.

Hopefully the perspective gained from being away for a while will help you to be a bit less of a victim and a snowflake. Man up please.

That’s an inspiring offer for him, considering his circumstances. He could even talk to Boy George about it. Georgie had posted a week ago about wanting to do some male prostitution work for crusty old white curmudgeons in Thailand. It could prove to be a match made in heaven. Win/Win.

Have you ever harpooned a whale?

Just asking.

And, does your peaceful environment extend beyond your gate?

Men travel to Thailand for a reason, and it's not to be a chubby chaser.

Whales are less often found in these tropical waters.

Still, in colder waters, there are men who, with nothing else to be had, harpoon them.

Thar She Blows.

Have you read Moby Dick?

This is a rather dense novel, yet worth reading.

The rendering of the blubber takes up a chapter in itself.

I don’t spend my time defining it, darling. I don’t need to. I travel the world, do what I want, go where I please, and I’ve got my life pretty well dialed in. Think Dan Bilzerian, but 10 times the baller he is. You know, some of us actually spend our time living instead of farting around writing dissertations about how to define it.

Think of it a differnt way, please:

If YOU were a lonely E.coli bacteria...then....which dish would you choose?

a. This one...

b. This one....

Just asking.

If you were smart, you would choose the dish with the most nutrients and the least number of your kind....E.coli....

Right?

Years ago, I posted this image.

At that time, nobody believed me.

This is NOT some sort of AI generated image.

This was just a typical day in the life of the average Taipei scooter guy.

The strange thing is that humans are just TOO adaptable for their own good.

As for me, back in the day, I witnessed this, first hand, in Taipei....and....

It was not a pretty sight, ...

Let me tell you.

These days, my ONE and ONLY hope is that.....

Elon Musk will, somehow, be able to do-away these automatons, PDQ...and....

Before I die.

Do you also hope the same as I.....???

==========================

After over 50 years here in Asia.....

And with noise levels increasing, almost everywhere.....

I am wondering....why?

WHY??????

Do you ever ask yourselves the same question?

=======================

The Ants are UNSTOPPABLE....please believe me....

They all go marching on....

UNSTOPPABLE ....

Mostly riding on MOTORBIKES......so noisy......

So, one of my MAIN questions is WHY we cannot ALL go shopping on Rodeo Drive?

Surely, on Rodeo Drive, motorbike noise is almost nonexistent.

SOME GIRLS, have ALL the Luck......

Mate, skip Nantucket, way overrated, a comfy rubber room awaits you at Pennhurst.

Because some humans don't care about the earth or other humans but what they can get for themselves while here. Even if they have children because they had sex doesn't mean they care for their futures. As far as your OP, you lived in New England so know how cold it gets. If you rarely leave the house like you do living here, it really doesn't matter where you live anyway. if you want quiet here, rent a house anywhere in Isaan outside of the larger cities, and outside the village proper so you don't hear the wedding music and morning broadcasts.
