No.

Will they accept a UK registry marriage certificate for one of these?

Yes.

Hmm this sounds tempting to do, get married here and get O visa before going to Thailand, only issue is getting a prenup done from UK :-) I guess I still have to register my UK certificate with Amphur when living in Thailand for other reasons?

Yes you should register the marriage in Thailand. You'll need it registered if you want apply for a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage.

And please bear in mind that you would almost certainly be required to go through a tediously bureaucratic legalisation process as described in the following attachments first:-

If I were in your shoes I would get this all sorted before coming to Thailand (assuming, of course, that you decided to get married in the UK).

Much easier to get married in Thailand and obtain a Non Imm O Visa at a local Thai Embassy Consulate.

As for prenups........sometimes not worth the paper their written on.

He will, though, first need to obtain an affirmation of freedom to marry from the British Embassy in Bangkok, which will then need to be translated into Thai and endorsed by the MFA:-

And I wonder whether he might be best off starting with a single-entry tourist visa obtained in the UK first. Not only should that guarantee his being permitted to board his flight to Thailand from LHR (or wherever) at check-in on the basis of a one-way ticket, but it would also then give him 60 days in order to sort out his marriage before travelling to a local Thai Embassy/Consulate for a non-O visa as you have suggested.

did you provide financials

When I was doing my Non-Imm O (Spouse) Visa in Royal Thai Embassy in London. It is quite easy for me to get the visa without asking the financial statement. However, an Englishman was next counter, the officer refused to accept his application because he didn't provide the financial statement. He is also applying for Non-Imm O (Spouse) Visa too. It is all depend on the officers who handle the case.

The officer asked me the following documents;

- Copy of my Malaysia passport

- Copy of my wife ID

- Copy of marriage certificate

Then the embassy issued one year visa for me.

I thought bank statements were required and so photo copied mine but forgot to include them in the pack.  Visa arrived 5 days later.; so this advice from Steve 187 is correct.  I would recommend including a stamped addressed special delivery return  envelope for safety.

No, just a copy of the marriage certificate and Mrs baboon's ID card. The whole thing is just as straightforward as Hull used to be.

Do you think it is possible that the guy was asked for financials because they simply didn't like the look of him? Other than that I can't think of any other reason why?

I went through the normal process. Submit in the morning and next day after lunch, collect the passport.

When I submit the application with my passport, then I wait for their response. They asked me, wife ID copy and marriage certificate. Then I asked the officer, do you need my bank statement and my wife's tabien baan. They said "don't need". Give me receipt to collect the passport tomorrow late noon.
