How's rush hour on the City Line these days?

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of renting a condo in Ramkhamhaeng and commuting to Phayathai in the mornings. I did the same a few years back but it took ages because you had to queue and wait for two or even three trains before finally getting on one. How are things nowadays? I'm asking specifically about the City Line, not the BTS or MRT.

Are you local??

The headway times were improved a couple of years back from memory (ie more frequent service), but it still gets full in peak times (0730-0930, 1730-1900)
Rare that you would have to wait more than one train IME - but hopefully some other members can post their experiences also

Thanks, that would just mean waiting an extra 10 minutes so not as bad as before. I might give it a morning test run before committing though.

Actually that is a good idea, do a test run at roughly the time of day you want to take the train into town.

I stay just near the ARL station at Ramkhamhaeng when I am in Bangkok - use the City Line regularly and have not had too many times recently where I have had to wait (just a bit of a squeeze some times)

Do you have the ARL stored value card?  That helps save time of course

It's the morning between 8 and 9 that I'm worried about. Do you ever use it at that time?

Yes on occasion.  Cannot recall the last time I had to wait for more than one train.  Just tightly packed is all.
A bunch of people get off at the next station (Makassan) and there are always a few uni students who jump off at Ramkhamhaeng so usually good to jump on

Hope this helps.  We'll have no trouble here!
