Married outside Thailand, come back to finish paperwork and visa.

Featured Replies

Hi to thaivisa forum.  English not my main language sorry about that.

I know it has been discussed many times in this forum about getting o visa via marriage but i couldn't find some answers.

we married about 8 months ago outside thailand. Everything gone smooth with my wifes birth certificate and free to marry paper. Now we have international marriage certificate.

I have talked to thai embassy in Turkey about how to get o-visa and i need some papers to get 3 month visa first and when i go back thailand i have to apply for 1 year stay extension(they dont answer other questions).

My questions are; after getting my 3 month visa based on marriage

1-When we fly back to thailand do i need a return ticket to my country to be able to enter country like i did before ? (they always ask return ticket when i enter with visa exempt

I don't know when i will fly back again it can be 3 months or 8 months it depends on how long my business finish there.

2-when i apply for 1 year extension i need 400k in thaibank or 40k income. I can get a stamped letter from my embassy that i have 40k+ income from Turkey but when i apply with that paper, does thai immigration ask a proof that this money come to a Thai bank every month?(which doesn't ) just a letter  from embassy without thai bank account enough?

3-if number 2 is NO; can i bring 500k baht worth of usd to thailand with me in cash with plane?  I don't want money transfer because international money transfer is not as easy as euro contries from where i stay. Only logical option is western union and you all know how they charge and i am going to lose at least 50k for that transfer.

4- I read thai banks don't allow foreigners to open thai bank acoount without a work permit. If so how can i do?

5-my wifes adress is in bangkok is it ok to finish all paperwork there or are there easier cities to get one year. We have 3 options for adress phitsanulok-nakhon si thamarat bangkok.

thank you all

1. No

A return or onward ticket is not required if you have a valid visa for entry.

2. There is no requirement that the 40k baht income has to be transferred to a Thai bank.

3. That depends upon Turkey's limits on taking cash out of the country. You only have to declare it on entry to Thailand if it is more than 20k USD. If using the 400k option it would have to be deposited in a Thai bank account in your name only for 2 months on the date you apply.

4. A work permit is not required to open a Thai bank account. You have to try different banks when you open the account. You wife can also as a reference to open the account at some bank branches.

5. You have to apply for the extension at the designated immigration office for where you are living.

Before you can apply for the one year extension of stay you will have to register your marriage done outside of the country at an Amphe to get a Kor Ror 22 foreign marriage registry that is required by immigration.

Your marriage certificate will need to be legalized by the country that issued it or at Turkish embassy here if that was where you got married. You will have to have your marriage certificate translated to Thai and the translation of it certified by the department of consular affairs of the MFA. Then you can go to the local Amphur to do the registration.

thank you. very helpfull.

When opening a bank account show them your non-O visa.

Be sure the account is in your name only, immigration does not like joint accounts.
