Thai police smash 700 million baht football betting ring

Police have made several arrests including 2 big investors running a huge trans-national football betting ring.

 

Arrested at the weekend were Santi Kookaeraeya and Chonrit Laothon-anan.

 

Plenty of evidence was gathered including phones, hard disks, CPUs and a computer.

 

One of the men was taken down in Korat.

 

Two more investors have fled overseas, police believe.

 

The arrests followed a raid on a gambling den in Phra Nakorn district of Bangkok in the middle of last month that has seen eight people already jailed for eight months each.

 

The size of the turnover of betting on foreign football matches was estimated to be between 600 and 700 million baht.

 

Fourteen separate locations were raided at the weekend, said chief Surachet Hakpan speaking at Samranrat police station yesterday where he announced the the multi division operation.

Probably haven't got a clue of amounts involved, more a case of "think of a number"
