Doctors and nurses wheeled seriously ill patients and newborns out of a Pattaya Hospital after huge explosions were heard.

Nobody knew what had happened with some fearing that the explosions came from Muang Pattaya Hospital itself.

It was later revealed that it was a transformer behind the hospital in Pattaya Sai 3.

More than 100 patients on gurneys, newborns and out-patients waiting for treatment were evacuated.

Those who needed things like oxygen were transferred to Banglamung Hospital.

An eyewitness said that the lights in the hospital flickered around noon before several explosions were heard.

Sanook reported that power in the hospital was back to normal after only a few minutes as the transformer was not directly related to the hospitals electric supply.

District chief Naris Niramaiwong was soon on the scene with his minions to inspect the damage.

Patients later were allowed back into the hospital.

It's a fairly new hospital beset with a fairly old problem: rain in Thailand and electricity in Thailand are not compatible.

At least the fire station is only 50 metres away. Must have been the quickest response in Thai history!

What can you do if an explosion takes place on the neighboring plot?

Good news that it was not a fault at the hospitals installation.

What was the name of this "new " hospital?

Transformer exploded on Suk Soi 19 today. The culprit...a squirrel! Never knew what hit him. Was walking under about 10 meters away. LOUD is putting in mildly w/very bright flash. :shock1: Small fire burning up there after. Guy came with a halon extinguisher and put it out.
