The need for Border Runs

Featured Replies

Hopefully and I am sure you will someone will enlighten me

I read a post

I have got my first 1 yr Non O ME based on marriage from Savannakhet and have done the extension which expires 15 Oct so i need to leave Thailand and return.

As of yesterday  I went to Sa Kaeo immigration and got an extension  to my 3 month 0 visa for a year  -   which takes me through to next year.( Based on Retirement)

My thoughts were I would turn up at the immigration office again next year and get another extension , or is that not how it works ??

And I have to leave the country as stated in the other post to get what -    another extension or a new visa

you knowledge appreciated

regards

Richard

just turn up next year,

you didn't extend your visa, you extended the permission to stay stamp you got on entry to Thailand

don't forget your 90 day address reports.

the post you quoted was about a multi entry non immigrant visa. based on Marriage, and a 60 day extension that he subsequently applied for. a different kettle of fish to what you have.

I think you already have an extension based on retirement and have read the post youvquoted incorectly.

If you have a extension based on retirement you do 90 day reports dont have to do border runs. Next year you just go to immigration and do another Extension.

The post you read and quoted was for a guy on a non o based on marriage Visa who by the sounds of it has been out of country for a new 90 day permision to stay. A very diffrent format than an extension as your on.

But anyway your fine just rock up to immigration next year no problems if you have everything in order.

Yes, you can apply for a new extension of stay each year. You can go in to apply as much as 30 days before the current one expires. You would still get a full year added to your current extension.

Note that it is an extension of your permission to stay in Thailand. Visas are not extended. Because you no longer have a visa, if you want to leave Thailand and return, you need to get a re-entry permit. When you re-enter Thailand put the re-entry permit number on the arrival card where it asks for visa number and draw the immigration officer's attention to your re-entry permit to ensure that you're stamped in for the balance of your extension of stay.

You also need to do a 90 day report anytime that you remain in Thailand for 90 uninterrupted days.
