World Mental Health Day 2017 focuses on happiness in workplaces

BANGKOK, 11 October, 2017 (NNT) – The Department of Mental Health has joined hands with relevant agencies to promote happiness among workers to mark the World Mental Health Day.

The Mental Health Department Director General, Dr. Boonrueng Trairuengworawat, said the theme of this year's World Mental Health Day is the promotion of mental health and well-being in workplaces.

Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, and 260 million others have anxiety disorders. In Thailand, mental health problems are most commonly found in the working age population, aged between 20 to 59 years old. The highest suicide rate is about eight per 100,000 people.

To raise awareness of this issue, the department has collaborated with relevant agencies, including the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and the Ministry of Labor. They have continually organized activities to support mental health and foster happiness in workplaces.
