Consideration period

Recommended Posts

Applied yesterday at immigration on the 18th  October for a one year marriage extension.I was given a date to return on 5th December.Expected the consderation period to be about 30 days with a return date about 18th November.

Rather foolishly didnt check the return date, and have a holiday booked from November 30th to December 7th.

Dont wish to overstay so if i show up on November 29th and the extension has not yet been approved would they be likley to extend the return date?

Not all offices start the 30 days from the date you apply. It appears the office you use started it from the date your current permit to stay ends like many others do.

They will not normally do another under consideration stamp to change the report back date.

It is possible that the extension will approved early and the they would then do the one year extension stamp. I suggest you check with them a little earlier than the 29th.

When they do the one year extension stamp don't forget you will need to apply for a re-entry permit to keep you extension valid when you leave the country.

And also if you intend on going out during the under consideration if you are able to change the holiday dates to suit the return to immigration, gentle reminder that 5th December is a public holiday and immigration likely to be closed.

It's within their power to extend the date. It would be best to call/visit the office to explain your situation and discuss options. You won't get a definitive answer here.

Actually they cannot give any more since his existing report back date is already at the maximum number of days.

From police order 327/2557.

Quote

3. During the period pending the consideration for granting an alien extension of stay in the Kingdom under Clause 2 herein, said alien is allowed to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand while awaiting the results of the consideration. A permission to stay dining the waiting period shall be stamped as many times as necessary by the competent officers: however, the total period of stay shall not exceed thirty days from the date following the date on which the permitted period has lapsed.

but he could visit his wife on 60 days extension and re-entry permit to keep it valid ??

That would not be possible unless he canceled his extension application and paid another 1900 baht for the 60 day extension.

The under consideration period cannot be extended for 60 days.
