The Meteorological Department on Friday warned residents of the North and Northeast to brace themselves for fast-changing weather conditions, including heavy rains, thunderstorms and a sharp drop in temperature from Saturday to Thursday.

In its warning issued at 5am, the department said variable weather conditions during the period would be caused by a strong high pressure system from China extending into the hot and humid upper regions of Thailand.

For the first-three days, variable weather conditions will be likely with thundershowers and gusty winds, as well as heavy rains.

The department said a decrease in temperature by 2-5 degrees Celsius degree are also expected for the Northeast and other parts of the country. Affected areas are as followings:

October 21-22:

Northeast in Nong Khai, Bung Kan, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Loei, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram and Surin.

October 22-23:

North in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphu, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phare, Uttardit Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Sukhuthai and Kamphaeng Phet.

East in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sakaeo, Chachoengsao and Chonburi.

Central in Nakhonsawan, Lopburi, Sara Buri, Pra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Sing Buri, Ang Tong, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Nakhon Pratom, Samut Songkram including Bangkok and its vicinity.

October24-26: Upper part of the country with less rain; South with more rain.

Bring it on ! The lower the temperature the better.

It's going to make a lot of rice farmers nervous in Surin, a few have started harvesting and a lot are thinking about it.

2-5 degrees OMG! we will freeze to death. :shock1:

Surprising that they can.

Here all fields (sugar, rice) still filled up to knee deep.

Never in almost seven years seen that much water.

Not even in 2011.

And it has been cool already during the last nights.

A touch of winter

Natures fireworks. Nothing like a good lightning display.

Hooray bring on winter I might have to wear my T shirt then:cheesy:

And it's a foggy-start, to the morning, here in Chiang Mai.

Just like autumn back in dear old England, just a lot warmer !

Is the rainy season ever gonna end this year? here we are, end of October & still in full swing, I know that we needed it but this is getting ridiculous.....

Rainy season has never ended until Loy Kratong in mid-November.

Most years it rains right up until the day, then abruptly stops.

Strange but true.

The clue is in my forum name.

Songkran and Loi Kratong were designed as 'book ends' for the rainy season.

Here in BKK it often stops early november. That has been my experience always, now the last 2 days not a drip of rain and blue skies (with some clouds). I have often thought that the rain stops earlier here.

As for the 2011 comparison of some.. in 2011 I was flooded before this time and other places near me were flooded long before. This did not happen so I don't see this happening this year. It seems that the distribution of flooding is different this year.

As a trained-librarian  (amongst several other things)  I'm all-in-favour of book-ends, they keep the books from falling over, when drunk !

I read cold coming warning.  I see 2-4 c. And laugh.
