Thailand’s Drug Decriminalization Edges Forward – With Little Fanfare

BANGKOK — Despite some changes at the top, a quiet push to relax the country’s harsh drug laws continues.

 

A year after the top justice official made a splash by declaring Thailand had lost the so-called War on Drugs and calling for more realistic narcotics policies, efforts to amend the laws to allow limited uses of banned substances are moving forward, albeit out of the public eye.

It's more than just talk if they already legalized hemp production and decriminalized kratom. 

One less thing to prosecute.  All for it. 

Legalise canna oil for cancer and other conditions treatment.

 

Legalise the lot. Sell it in government shops along with cigs and alcohol and tax the lot. Use some of the proceeds to fund rehab programs instead of spending money jailing people. Jail should be for violent offenses not drug takers. We all know the problems in the villages though. The people who are supposed to enforce the laws of the land make massive amounts of money by having perps sell drugs for them.

very rarely do those that smoke MJ get violent

It usually just mellows them more than anything

Its the ones on the hard stuff that get violent and aggressive

Drugs cause more deaths across the world than anything else, legalize it here and most of the worlds bad boys will end up here if they are not here already.

I don't agree with you at all. The 'bad boys' are all about money. Legalise something and the price will drop as a reflection of reduced risk, The 'bad boys' will no longer be interested.

The experience of Portugal has been declining crime rates and a sharp decrease in the incidence of new HIV infections.
It sounds a bit counterintuitive by some metrics, but real world results are hard to argue with. 
I have also seen reports of reduced "hard" drug use in US jurisdictions that have decriminalized or even legalized marijuana use.
The drunk driver is likely to want to see "How fast can this bitch go?", while the stoned hippie is peacefully waiting for the stop sign to change to green. 

 

10 years for e-cigs but talking drugs? :) Not going to happen

While I commend the move I am not holding my breath. I doubt it will happen in

my lifetime.
