Pattaya tells contractors to pick up pace on lagging Bali Hai facelift

PATTAYA:--With just a month left until the international fleet show, the renovation of Bali Hai Pier still has nearly a third of the work to go.

Pattaya Mayor Anan Charoenchasri and top deputies checked on the progress of the pier facelift Oct. 10, finding it only at 70 percent complete just 34 days until its planned completion date and 40 days until the 50-nation maritime event.

The mayor stressed to contractors that they’re running out of time and must be finished before top political and military leaders of Thailand’s neighbors and allies show up expecting a spiffy new jetty.

Sorry Mr Mayor but if it's anything like your Tunnel then you have no chance - but maybe for the 2019 feet show

Lovely a congrete park hope they paint the congrete green color so its even more natural.

Ah!  The old losing face syndrome strikes again.

Problem is contractors are all running other contracts across Pattaya

Not much shadow in that patk!

Hell, if I only earned 300 baht a day I'd drag the hell out of it !

We were there the other day on our way to the Hua Hin ferry pier. The site was full of workers, but only 2 or 3 seemed to have been tasked. Maybe some oversight might encourage participation?

reasonably simple resolution---dont ever make advance payments for any type of work in thailand...progress payments ok---but balance only on satisfactory completion....

same theory when buying condos off the plan----very foolish .....

I'm more interested in seeing what sort of state it is in a Month after the big Naval party.... Run down, rusty and strewn with refuse is my guess.

Seriously, is anyone surprised?

After a couple of bragging quotes a week or two ago, where we were told the the face lift was well on schedule, you could have bet money on this happening (if only you could bet!).

Re-arrange this well known phrase or saying.  Brewery in a organise not could up piss.

Losing face over a failed face lift is kind of poetic though!

My partner and I were down there a few days ago and it didn't look anywhere near to being done and seemed quite a mess.  Doubt they have a prayer of getting it done on time unless they really pick up the pace.  While they're at it, the streets at the traffic light intersection by the overpass have become very bumpy with many potholes--a nice jarring ride for the bigwigs arriving by car.

We went to Koh Larn 2 days ago. The main building is under destruction. The pier is a disaster zone.

It's no surprise to me because I have watched at least two occasions where they have completed work in one of the areas and then the next day they were digging  it up again:giggle:

they spent a whole day laying new tarmac and the next day they were cutting through it to dig a trench. Obviously no one with project management skills on the job.
