Trash scares tourists off Hua Hin beach - spurs authorities to clean up action

A massive influx of trash along the whole Hua Hin coastline at the weekend scared tourists off the beach.

Storms were blamed.

Daily News reported that foreign visitors were appalled at the mess of plastic bottles and other rubbish and would not go into the sea.

This prompted the authorities into decisive action to save tourism - the deputy governor of Prajuab Khiri Khan and local municipal chiefs commandeered army personnel and tourist police.

On Sunday some 100 helpers cleared a 5 kilometer stretch of sand from the Centara Grand Resort and Villa south to Khao Takiap.

Meanwhile a depression was causing more flooding in the area with residents in some locations warned to move valuable items up to the second floor if possible.

Small boats were also warned to stay in harbor during the period of October 31st to November 3rd.

...and it just keeps pouring onto the beach daily.

...they didn't throw it into the water.     They merely dropped it into the nearest drain.

Which is why drains in some Western cities have moulded into the concrete tops "this flows into our sea".

If you position your car just right on the footpath, you can also drain the sump oil, directly into the drain.   I've seen it done.     :shock1:

Pran Buri park seeks help from soldiers after tonnes of garbage washes ashore

By The Nation

Pran Buri Marine Park is seeking help from a local Army camp for soldiers to help collect garbage at the park’s beach after tonnes of garbage washed ashore.

The park’s chief, Somsak Krithathorn, said on Monday the 1,200-metre-long beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Pran Buri district had been awash with garbage for the last two days.

Somsak said park officials had worked all day to collect garbage but had not been able to clean the beach as garbage continued to wash ashore.

Somsak said the park had sought help from the Thanarat Fort and asked for garbage trucks from the local administration.

The detritus swamping the beach included wood, coconuts, foam boxes, plastic bags and bottles, and various discarded items such as clothes and shoes.

Somsak said park officials believed the garbage had been washed into the sea by floodwaters through rivers in the Central provinces and then thrown back on the beach by waves. He said a lot of garbage had also been washed ashore at the Hua Hin, Khao Tao and Suan Son beaches.

Somebody buy some beach cleaning machines already.

Income from recycled plastic could cover the purchase price and the tobacco lobby could recycle the fag ends too!

Just saying...

Prior to buying the beach cleaning machines there is a very rare item that has to be sourced.

See attached.

The main reason that the tide-swept trash comes in on this beach is the groyne built out into the sea to protect the mouth of the Pran River. The resultant interference with the natural water flow causes the trash washing down the two rivers to the north to end up on this beach instead of being distributed evenly southwards. Happens every year,

A shame really because this gently curving beach backed with sea pines is the nicest in the area when seen in a naturally clean state..

At some point people are dumping or pumping their waste and garbage in the shores of Thailand...

If nobody acts, tourists, expats (and mainly their monnneeeeyy)  will flee and no statistic trickery from the TAT will yield any change...

Wake up guys....it is not a crime to speak out that you are slowly killing your golden gooses
