Just noticed this on the TVS site, the Non ED cancellation letter was required a few years go but then they stopped asking, i'm not sure if a Non B cancellation letter was required also a few years ago but it seems it is required now

I think have continued to ask for it when stopped requiring it for ED extensions.

Joe I have a friend who is just about to finish his first year on ED Visa, he will be going to Vientianne in a week or so to apply for his 2nd year, will he need this letter?

They stopped asking for the extension cancellation letter some time ago for those on extensions based upon attending a school.

Joe, I understand and I remember them asking for it and I also remember them stopping asking for it a few years ago but as you can see from the TVS website they have now started asking for it again from the start of this month, I look for updates on the TVS  site on a regular basis as I use their service a lot and don't recall the bit where it mentions the cancellation letter being there until a few days ago, if it wasn't required then it would not be stated, TVS keep the site up to date

 

So if it is indeed the case that it is required will he need it?

Just looked their site. And says they are asking for it again. It really makes no sense unless a person has been attending a university that allows them one year renewable extension. The max is a year total if attending a informal school and I would think that the paperwork for new non-ed visa would be enough if asked about the extension.
