A local official told Sophon Cable TV that Dongtan Beach has been chosen for a campaign in line with plans to stop smoking at Thailand's beaches.

Wutthiphon Charoenphon said that the local authority and the department of marine and coastal resources would be running a campaign entitled "Dongtan No Smoking" after the ban came into force last week.

Boxes for smokers have been set up in the area.

The campaign will be mounted to inform beach operators and tourists about the ban.

Sophon reminded their readership on Facebook that the ban applies to smoking on 24 of the country's beaches.

Violators face a year in jail and a 100,000 baht fine - or both.

No reports have yet been made of fines or jail time but Sophon said they intend to monitor the situation in the coming weeks.

Someone must have a lot of these 'boxes' to get rid of. Since it is totally legal to smoke on the road (located next to the box) why the f-c- would anyone smoke inside the box?

Think out of the box, but smoke inside. Especially when it comes to "joint" campaigns.
